As if 2021 wasn't already on our "worst years ever" list, it dealt us another blow on its way out. Betty White died today. She was 99, less than three weeks shy of 100. Makes you hate this year even more. And then you realize that the next year is 2020 too. (2022... we just can't escape it!) I generally like this day. It's even my wedding anniversary! David and I got married six years ago tonight. Mostly we'll be celebrating that, certainly not the year (or 5) just past... And I'm sad that I don't hold out much hope that things will be better in 2020 too either. Though a girl can hope. Today, the phone lines are open for anything you'd like to share... thoughts on the year(s) gone by, Betty White, resolutions or lack thereof... Or maybe you've spotted the missing in action so-called governor of Florida, the man I call MoRon DeathSentence. The worst COVID outbreak yet, and he's not been seen in public in over two weeks. At some point in the hour, Harvey J. Kaye will pop in to review the stupidities of 2021 and project the imperatives of 2022. And I certainly won't forget. The last bit of what's news before the new year

I think back to a year ago, when I couldn't be more excited that 2020- the worst year in our collective lives-- was finally ending. We al figured that 2021 had to be better. And then we grew more and more disgusted as it became apparent that 2020 never actually ended. It just continued for another year. Or as one comedian put it on one of the year end comedy shows I watched the other day, "2021 is just another 2020 variant." Bingo! Well, 2021 is almost over and 2022, at this point, resembles Omicron to me. Ugh. It is Thursday, so Howie Klein is here for our final 2021 get-together. And today, he's bringing along another Congressional candidate that Blue America has endorsed, Summer Lee, running in Pittsburgh, PA, to represent PA-18.

A bit of what's news for now

Not only are we fast approaching the new year, we're also coming up on the one year anniversary of the attack on the US Capitol by a mob of Donald Trump supporters. We live in a nation of very gullible people. Many of them honestly believed the lies from TFG and thought they were saving our nation from those who seek to destroy it. (See: Opposite World). Most of us watched in horror as the insurrectionists entered sacred American ground, and were further horrified when they were all allowed to leave, with no arrests that day. But now, over 700 of the insurrectionists, rioters and otherwise stupid fucking people were rounded up and charged with crimes. I wanted to find out what progress is being made with these prosecutions. So I called on the one journalist I think is covering this episode in American history better than all the others: Marcy Wheeler at Emptywheel.net. Marcy joins us for pretty much the entire hour. You may want to take notes. She's got lots of info to share...

Our pal Laffy got some big news this week. After almost three years of working toward this, she and her family just got approved to move to Canada. She'll explain, and we'll attempt to have a bit of fun on this, our last Tuesday of another really shitty year!

Last year at this time, we were just wanting the year 2020 to be over already figuring nothing could be as bad... until we started living through 2021. Now all we can say is it was too bad to be true, bring on 22. Today, we'll wobble our way to the end of this year with an old friend.
