Senator Vance, a former venture capitalist and the author of the best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," was for a long time mentioned in veepstakes discussion and was formerly a Trump dissident but has become vocal supporter of the MAGA agenda. The nation was shocked on Saturday as former President Trump was the target of an attempted assassination at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooting left President Trump with a wounded ear, one rally attendee dead, and two others injured. The gunman was killed in return fire by the Secret Service. The nation is still processing the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday evening. The shooting left one dead, and two other injured, with the former President suffering a wound from a bullet that grazed his ear. The suspected shooter was also killed by Secret Service members, but the attack leaves more questions than answers. A gunman fired shots from a roof at former President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania today. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump says he "heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin." Secret Service killed the gunman who perched on a roof just hundreds of yards away from the rally.  Former President Trump's communications team released a statement saying that "President Trump is doing well" and "looking forward to joining you all in Milwaukee." The Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, this week confirmed Iran has had a major role in the anti-Israel protests that swept through college campuses and cities across the United States. Director Haines said there is evidence that "actors tied to Iran’s government" are providing funding and organization of these protests in what he described as an "increasingly aggressive" campaign.
