Portion Distortion: Why Aren't There Set Portion Sizes for Baby-Led Weaning?
#215: What portion sizes should I be offering my baby when starting solids? Reality is that there is no clear or definitive guideline to what an exact portion size of food should look like for a baby. In this episode I will share some ideas of how much a baby might eat but also share some tips about things you can do to help your baby learn how to eat. At the end of the day there are really no rules or guidelines for portion sizes during baby-led weaning.

#210: What is intuitive eating? And how can I raise my baby to be an intuitive eater? Finding a balance between offering a variety of foods and the necessary nutrition is an important key to creating a healthy relationship between a baby and food.
This is a two-part interview series with the co-authors of the book ‘How to Raise an Intuitive Eater: Raising the Next Generation with Food and Body Confidence’. In this episode co-author and registered dietitian Sumner Brooks, MPH, RDN, CEDRD defines what intuitive eating is and how infants are naturally born as intuitive eaters. She also discusses the importance of allowing our babies to develop their curiosity for trying new foods through feeling, touching, and experiencing food without the need to “push” them to do so.

• Sumner Brooks, MPH, RDN, CEDRD is a registered dietitian and mom of two. She is an advocate for intuitive eating and co-author for the book How to Raise an Intuitive Eater.
• Sumner has a strong background in eating disorders and has worked as an outpatient Dietitian and counselor with disordered eating clients for over 10 years.
• She is the founder of Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian Professionals (EDRDPRO) organization which helps support and educate fellow dietitians and other nutrition professionals about eating disorders and weight-inclusive approaches to intuitive eating.

• She received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from Sargent College of Boston University in 1971. She also received a master’s degree in education with emphasis on special education in 1975 from the University of Arizona.
• Marsha has co-authored PreFeeding Skills editions one and two and Mealtime Participation Guide and Homemade Blended Formula Handbook with Suzanne Evans Morris and Feeding and Nutrition for the Child with Special Needs with Tracy Delaney.
• Her book Anxious Eaters, Anxious Mealtimes: Practical and Compassionate Strategies for Mealtime Peace serves as a great resource for parents and caregivers.
