Episode 19- Jaryd Clifford
This morning I had a 60 minute yarn with the ever inspiring Jaryd Clifford. Jaryd is a ‘blinky’ as he affectionately calls it, an athlete with a visual impairment and recently he became a dual World Champion at the 2019 Dubai Paralympic World Athletics Champs in the 1500m and 5000m! I was fortunate to be but a small part of his build up to the event (as physio on Pre-event Flagstaff altitude training camp). We talk about this experience, the ups and downs, Tokyo, his writing and much more. Tune in, it’s a fun listen and great insight into the life and head of one of modern day Australia’s most inspiring and amazing sporting athletes!

Episode 17- Damien Clark. Catch up number 3
Today I catch up with Damien Clark one of the athletes I coach from the Run Culture Owls. This is the third time over the past 6 months I have caught up with Damien (hark back to episode 2 and 9 for more on Damien’s story) and as you will see this episode is a little different to the previous two. Damien is injured! I love this particular episode because it demonstrates how far Damien has matured when it comes to injury management and I also feel a lot of injured runners could learn a thing or two as well as sympathise with this particular recording. Just remember all injury management is individually variable, so the advice and management I have provided to Damien isn’t a one size fits all approach. I have the added advantage of seeing Damien several times a week too!

Episode 16- Interview with Ashley Raymond Bennett and my training update for #2Bays56
It’s a lengthy one this week guys, definately Sunday long Run material! On the show this week is Nike ambassador and trail running superstar; Ashley Raymond Bennett or lilashtrailboy as he is known on Instagram! Boy he knows how to tell a story! He had me engrossed for 90 minutes. He certainly taught me a lot about trail running; be it shoes, nutrition, down hill technique, his sky running experiences (running up 30-50 % gradient climbs) and then there was his captivating race recap of how his 2019 2Bays56 race unfolded! Anyone doing 2Bays this year should listen to this one, it’s a fun listen!

Episode 12- #TwoBays56 Intro. Dane Verwey
In a bid to fill episodes with more gritty training detail and to make them more consistent and frequent I’ve decided to document my weekly training as I lead into my first ever ultra trail run! I will continue to have catch ups with guests on the Run Culture Podcast whilst I simultaneously record this mini series #twobays56. I don’t want this to come across as self indulgent or self promoting, I just want to create the kind of podcast filled with the nerdy running detail/goss I love to listen to. I hope people get motivated/learn/agree/disagree/debate/enjoy/laugh/sympathise/reach out to me etc etc with what I have to share. I know with the past blogs I have done be it the ‘Breaking 2:24 project’ or ‘Goldy bound’, only positives have come out of sharing my running journey. This is the introductory episode for #Twobays56. I will release this weekly training recount every Friday morning in the lead up. Excuse the ‘um-ing and argghing’, my presenting skills will get better, well that’s the aim!

Episode 11- Caden Shields- 2019 Doha World Championships Marathon Review
Today I catch up with Caden Shields once again, this time 1 month after the 2019 Doha World Championships marathon where he put in an effort that not only did himself but his team and the whole of of New Zealand incredibly proud! He came 30th place in 2:18:08 (just 2.5 minutes off his PB) beating not only the conditions (29 degrees Celsius, 50% humidity) but a lot of runners that on paper he shouldn’t have. Today, Caden reflects on his experience in Doha and now that the Tokyo Olympics are a real possibility he talks about his plans going into 2020!
