BONUS: The Hag by Robert Herrick

The Hag by Robert Herrick is almost comically simple and cliche... until you realize that in the 1640s, witches were considered REAL. Emily Edwards reads the full text of three witchy poems from the 1600s, the height of the witch hysteria in England, and gives historical context on real life "witch hunts." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fuckboisoflit/messageMore ways to enjoy FBOL & Emily J. 24: Jane Eyre - Liv Albert of MYTHS, BABY

It's the episode you've literally been waiting for. Host Emily Edwards (@MsEmilyEdwards) teams up with your most beloved Classics Podcaster, Liv Albert of @MythsBaby to bring the hellfire (pun intended) down on Edward Rochester. And Jane Eyre. A little bit on Jane, too. Summary of JANE EYREAfter a protracted childhood of darkness and horror, abused and neglected orphan, Jane, finds work as a governess to the adopted daughter of a mysterious and dickish, new money, country squire named Edward Rochester. She quickly falls in love with him despite his coldness and abuse, and he offers her marriage. Before their wedding, she learns he is already married, to a woman he keeps in his attic. His first wife burns down the estate, and Jane flees, and eventually finds a preacher named St. John Rivers, and his two sisters. St. John offers Jane the opportunity to be his wife and travel to India to proselytize, but Jane declines. Without tether, Jane soon learns that she has inherited a mysterious uncle's fortune upon his passing, and that the Rivers family is also her cousins. Jane gives her fortune to St. John for his church, and then returns to Rochester's destroyed home, where he is living in a small cottage, blind and maimed. They marry, and have a child. More ways to enjoy FBOL & Emily J. Edwards!Find Emily's books and professional information at https://www.msemilyedwards.comLove T shirts, pins, and other merch?
