Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Show Nominee 2023 Ian Smith is a multi-award winning comedian, actor and writer as heard on BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, The Now Show, Just A Minute and his own comedy-documentary Girl Stuck in Basketball Hoop. Ian’s 2023 Edinburgh Fringe show Crushing was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award and runner-up in Next Up's Biggest Award in Comedy. Ian is also a talented actor – starting off as a lead in BBC2 sitcom Popatron. He has gone on to star alongside Katherine Parkinson in Sky comedy Officially Special and have a leading role in BBC1 drama, The Ark - as well as a number of supporting roles including The Emily Atack Show, Siblings, Pls Like and BBC drama The Syndicate. Ian has written on The News Quiz, The Now Show, Newsjack, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week. He is the co-host of the Northern News podcast, alongside Amy Gledhill - which was featured in The Guardian’s “best podcasts of 2023 so far”. Lemn Sissay is a a BAFTA nominated International prize winning writer, broadcaster and poet who has had the MOST extraordinary life. Please listen to his intro to find out more! Lemn was the official poet of the London 2012 Olympics, joined the Booker Prize judging panel in 2020, he’s also won The Pen Pinter Prize and a Points of Light Award, was elected as chancellor of the University of Manchester in 2015, he was awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to literature and then in 2021 was awarded an OBE and he has been a guest on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs. His latest poetry book is out now and is a selection of 4 line poems from his daily poems, written first thing in the morning over the past decade. Alex Horne is best known as the creator of BAFTA winning TV series Taskmaster, in which he takes the role of assistant to the Taskmaster Greg Davies. Taskmaster started in 2015 and versions of the programme have also been made in America, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Finland and New Zealand. Since 2010, Alex has been performing with his band The Horne Section. Alex Horne Presents The Horne Section ran for three series on BBC Radio 4, The Horne Section TV Show started in 2022 and The Horne Section Podcast launched in 2018. His 2003 Edinburgh show "Making Fish Laugh", was nominated for a Perrier Award for Best Newcomer. Dave Cohen is a comedy writer who has written on shows including Not Going Out, Have I Got News For You, Spitting Image, My Family and Life of Riley. On Radio he’s written for shows including, The News Quiz, Dead Ringers, Sunday Format and 50 episodes of the Radio 4 show 15 Minute Musical with Richie Webb and David Quantick, which won the Writers Guild Best Comedy 2009. Dave wrote the lyrics for around 100 songs for CBBC show Horrible Histories – winning eight BAFTAs and a Rose d’Or. Dave started his career performing stand up and was nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe Perrier Award in 1984.
