Ep. 432 - Chris Cantrill
Chris Cantrill is a 3-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated comedian, writer and actor. The Times described him, as “one of the most charmingly, daftly funny comics on the scene right now”. Since making his television debut on Harry Hill’s Clubnite (Channel 4), Chris has become a regular on television and radio. He’s appeared in shows such as the BAFTA-winning Alma’s Not Normal (BBC 2), Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared (Channel 4) and Avoidance (BBC One). He’s also written for the likes of Dave, Channel 4, BBC Radio 2, Cbeebies and CBBC. As half of the acclaimed double act The Delightful Sausage with Amy Gledhill, Chris has been twice nominated for the ‘Best Show’ award at the Edinburgh Festival (2019 and 2022). Chris and Amy have appeared on shows such as Question Team (Dave), Pointless (BBC One), and as series regulars for Late Night Mash (Dave). Chris is also the co-creator and star of BBC Radio 4’s breakout comedy, Icklewick FM which The Radio Times called “one of the best comedies of 2024”. Ep. 431 - Peter York
Peter York is an author and broadcaster who came to fame writing the Sloane Ranger Handbook with Ann Barr. He was also the Style Editor of Harpers & Queen for 10 years and became a media commentator on English social trends and traits, regularly appearing on television. Peter wrote Peter York's Eighties (1996), this time co-authored with Charles Jennings, which was both a book and a BBC television series. This was followed by Dictators' Homes (2005), which explored the interior design favoured by dictators as a reflection of their despotic characters. Recently Peter wrote the book, The War Against the BBC, about how an Unprecedented Combination of Hostile Forces Is Destroying Britain’s Greatest Cultural Institution... And Why People Should Care. He’s also presented a sixty-minute live show, How to Become a Nicer Type of Person, on stage in Edinburgh and London and Peter York's Hipster Handbook on BBC Four. His latest book is called A Dead Cat on your Table, and is available from the 1st of October 2024. Gary Warren is a former child actor, best remembered for his role as Peter in the 1970 film The Railway Children. Now retired from acting Gary Warren also played Cedric Collingford in the 1970 TV series Catweazle and Taplow in Whack-O!, as well as starring as Alexander in his own TV sitcom Alexander the Greatest. In the West End, he played the nephew of Mame in the musical Mame starring Ginger Rogers. Gary has written a memoir of his acting years and his passion for music entitled If My Memoir Serves Me Well. Christian Brighty is an award-winning comedian, actor and writer who has his own BBC Radio 4 series “The Many Wrongs of Lord Christian Brighty”. Ep. 424 - Major-General Chip Chapman
Major-General Chapman joined the British Army in September 1980. He joined 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) and fought in the Falklands campaign, including the Battle of Goose Green. He stayed with 2 PARA until May 1985 which included his first Northern Ireland tour. In 1994 he returned to 2 PARA as a company commander for an 18 month operational tour in Belfast, prior to becoming 2IC 1 PARA and was promoted to Lt Col in March 1996. In July 1998 he became SO1 Operations in NI, and went on to command 2 PARA from August 1999-December 2001. His tour as CO included a NI reinforcement tour and the weapons collection mission (OP BESSEMER) in Macedonia. He was promoted to Colonel in December 2001 and appointed Colonel Military Operations 2 in the MoD (dealing with Counter Terrorism). As a Brigadier, he commanded 19 Mech Bde from 2003-2005, prior to becoming the last COS in NI (his fifth NI tour). He was Head of Counter Terrorism and UK Operations in the MoD from 2007-2010. In 2010, he became the Senior British Military Advisor to US Central Command.
