Corked bats in MLB; Baseball returns in Korea (5/5)
Today's word of the day is 'corked' as in a report came out about Pete Rose and the Expos putting them in bats. How true is this (0:08)? We take our first ever break so I can read an OPED from Scott Boras in the New York Times. He wrote about needing baseball back and that America needs it (7:27). Baseball has returned... in Korea. Recap: The Last Dance Part V & VI (5/4)
Today's word of the day is 'legend' as in we honor the legendary coach Don Shula following the news today of him dying at the age of 90. Now let's get into Michael Jordan and The Last Dance. Kobe Bryant made an appearance in the documentary and I'm not sure how I felt about his inclusion. Hear me out first. Were you aware before seeing it Sunday night that Jordan shopped himself for a shoe brand? I wasn't. What is the cost of being Jordan fame? How do athletes handle that and their brand? With that fame comes a lot of loneliness. Talking about the infamous “Republicans buy sneakers too.” quote and what we learned from it. Cultural impact of the 1992 Dream Team. So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Jordan's gambling from golf to quarter tossing to casinos and how would I have treated Jordan’s Atlantic City trip. MLBeard Challenge Day 48-50: Minnesota, Phoenix, San Antonio. NFL has canceled all international games for the 2020 season. Antonio Brown this weekend posted a picture of himself wearing a Ravens uniform... will the team sign him? #waittosee--------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. NASCAR is back and LeBron finally speaks (5/1)
Today’s word of the day is ‘checkered’ as in the flag as in NASCAR is back. Races will start being held starting on May 17th, but does this mean that more sports will follow (0:06)? LeBron James is back too. He finally speaks out on social media about the NBA and the season. What do I think about his statement (5:58)? Everyone is coming out with their own accounts about what’s happening in The Last Dance. Why does the documentary look the way it does? Who had control over what content is being shown? The answer is very telling, but we all knew that (8:43). Little League World Series was canceled and the economic impact is going to be as devastating as what’s happening in Cooperstown. There are other sad consequences from this decisions so let’s discuss (15:39). Put on your boxing gloves because a fight is breaking out in MLB. Monica Seles got stabbed during a match. Doesn’t get as much attention as tonya Harding, but was more significant (40:15). MLBeard Challenge Day 47: Golden State Warriors (44:15). Will these NASCAR races go on just as they're supposed to? #waittosee--------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB IS BACK... or is it (4/29)
Today’s word of the day is ‘hyperbole’ as in this morning I discussed the 2007 Miguel Cabrera trade and someone called it the “worst trade in MLB history”. I need to talk about this with you (0:06). MLB came out with a new plan for baseball to return or start or return/start in mid-June/early-July. This will reshape the entirety of what we know and understand about MLB leagues and divisions..so let’s discuss (9:35). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me to revisit the ticket refund issue with news that teams can now do it. NCAA board of governors got together and approved new name, image, and likeness rules for college athletes. The NBA had announced plans to open up practice facilities on May 1st, but Houston, we have a problem. Let's dissect what happened and why there are problems (8:09). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how could the Lakers have gotten money from the government that was supposed to go to small businesses (15:08). Temperature checks at arenas. Mark Cuban says we have to guard against someone taking extra strength Tylenol to fool us. And that’s not the only issue. Let’s talk actual logistics (24:45). MLBeard Challenge Day 44: Boston Celtics (34:54). Review - Extraction (40:16). We talked all show about the NBA and practice facilities opening up, but will it happen by May 8th? #waittosee--------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Recap: The Last Dance Part III & IV and NFL Draft (4/27)
Today's word of the day is 'revisionist' as in revisionist history. Isiah Thomas used his time in The Last Dance to go on an apology tour of that 1991 season ender vs the Bulls. Let's discuss that legendary rivalry between the Bad Boy Pistons and the Chicago Bulls. The documentary needed more detail on Dennis Rodman. We got to see a glimpse of what Dennis Rodman was like, but where is the all the juice! Michael Jordan said before the documentary that he wasn't going to look great... and he was right. My final takeaway from this is what Jerry Krause did in 1998 - if you don't know, well, follow me here (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what my thoughts on NBA practice facilities opening up on 5/1 (25:47). MLBeard Challenge Day 41-43: 76ers, Pacers, Heat each get $1K (33:18).
