The NFL goes where Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys take it (8/13)
Today's word of the day is 'grace' as in Jerry Jones is back as in the NFL is back. So what did he have to say? Well, he talked about showing 'grace' when talking about kneeling for the anthem, he talked about not giving Dak Prescott a new deal, and he talked about getting fans in the stands. So now what happens? Whatever Jerry wants (0:06). Then you look at what's going on in the NBA bubble and you realize how wrong Jerry Jones is. Patrick Beverly was very vocal because of the grief he's been dealing with with things going on in Chicago. His quote was very direct and very deep. We need to all look at ourselves and our fandom. I made mistakes in my career when dealing with players and their personal problems. I realize now how wrong I was (10:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Joe Kelly recently went on Ross Stripling's podcast and had some choice words about the Houston Astros. So someone asked me if the Astros now have a bigger beef with the Los Angeles Dodgers than the Dodgers had with the Astros. This is a good one (28:41). Review - What We Do In The Shadows (32:25). Let's end the show with more bubble talk because the NBA is doing something that's SO insane it just makes you laugh (38:10). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. College football is making MLB look like a perfect league (8/12)
Today's word of the day is 'cornhuskers' as in Nebraska as in what in the world is that school doing. The Big Ten decided to cancel the fall season and now Nebraska wants to go rogue. Do they not care about the wellbeing of their athletes? The Big Ten as a conference took a stand and Nebraska has been shameful in this decision. I need to explain to everybody what is going on with college football, why unions will NOT work, and why nobody is listening (0:06). And now back to some bubble talk. Reports are out that MLB might want a bubble for the 2020 postseason. I wonder where you've heard that before... Well, will a bubble work if players can't follow rules right now? The Cleveland Indians are dealing with this issue now. Now that Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac have been put on the restricted list by the team Francisco Lindor has spoken up about how ashamed he is (17:27). Review - Grey's Anatomy (30:05). NHL talk! NHL talk! Come and get your NHL talk! I find it completely unacceptable that two teams had to play a 5OT playoff game. There's a better way than that (33:40). Let's end today talking about the Boston Red Sox. We've talked a lot about Mookie Betts, but how are things going for the Red Sox with the players they traded for (41:55)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Big Ten cancels fall football season... now what? (8/11)
Today's word of the day is 'now what' as in now what's going to happen in the Big Ten? The conference Presidents have voted and football will not be played this fall. It hopes to play in the Spring, but who knows. Scott Frost talked on Monday and said we will play. Jim Harbaugh released a statement on Monday that Michigan wants to play football and they're prepared to do so. None of that will be happening so... now what (0:06)? Let's give an update on the Cleveland Indians. Mike Clevenger was caught out with Zach Plesac, and he was sent home too. What an absolute mess this has become (18:09)! And now MLB hands down suspensions for Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron and Athletics player Ramon Laureano. 20 games for Cintron and 6 games for Laureano. Was that deserved (22:06)? How about MLB players deciding to opt-out now? Well it's happened to the New York Mets. Pitcher Marcus Stroman who was coming back from a calf injury decided to opt-out of the season once he was able to accrue enough service time to become a free agent after this season (29:17). Review - The Secret: Dare to Dream (38:40). Let's end the show talking about injuries in MLB again. This has become a serious, serious problem (41:15). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Big Ten leading charge to cancel college football season (8/10)
Today's word of the day is 'power' as in the Power Five or as in who has all the power. Right now in college football things are happening. A report came out that the Big Ten Presidents got together and have voted 12-2 to cancel the fall season. So what will the other conferences in the Power Five do? Is the Big 12 waiting for the Pac-12? Is the SEC going to go on without everyone else? Did anyone wake up someone from the NCAA and let them know what's going (0:06)? Now let's move onto MLB. History was made. The Cleveland Indians sent pitcher Zach Plesac home! Not because he wasn't pitching great, not because he said something controversial, not because he missed a meeting... he was sent home for breaking protocol and leaving the hotel in Chicago to go out with friends. UNBELIEVABLE (16:45)! So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how I would have dealt with the Tyler Skaggs situation if I was president of the team. Word came out that an employee of the Angels was charged for providing drugs to Tyler Skaggs that ultimately led to his death (21:50). Review - Point of No Return (36:50). I'm so sick of the Houston Astros. But if you're Athletics Ramon Lauerano... what are you doing charging their dugout! What will baseball do now (39:20)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Jim Harbaugh can't beat Ohio State so he's resorted to using the Snitch Line (8/7)
Today's word of the day is 'rivalry' as in what Jim Harbaugh and Michigan mean to Ryan Day and Ohio State. The two coaches had a conference call and Harbaugh actually used his time to snitch on Ohio State! I could not believe what I heard from Harbaugh. Let's talk about rivalries in sports and where one rival will go to get at the other (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? The SEC is doing everything they can to play football this fall. Today the conference released health protocols. Well, on Thursday the Big Sky cancelled the fall season. So someone asked me what the heck is going on in college football (11:20). Review - What Happened, Nina Simone (20:30)? On Thursday I said Texas Tech had no choice but to fire women's basketball coach Marlene Stollings. Late Thursday they did...good (26:20). Let's talk a little about the Miami Marlins. The biggest story in MLB. Can they be the great underdog story and make a run to the postseason (27:30)? LeBron James has some interesting quotes about the Lakers struggles inside the bubble. They have not been a great team so far. Let's talk about that quote and how strange it was to hear this (30:00). I need to make a correction from a past show. I said Shohei Ohtani was the highest paid Japanese player of all time... that wasn't even close to being true (37:30). Oakland Athletics bench coach Ryan Christenson and the team had to issue an apology after Thursday's game because he celebrated by doing a Nazi salute. Is this what he meant to do? Probably not. Was he wrong for this? Definitely. We all need to be better (42:00). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB doing what it can to save 2020 season (8/6)
Today's word of the day is 'Orwellian' as in George Orwell as in MLB is now acting as Big Brother and watching over the players now like hawks. New protocols have been issued by MLB. Players are now enforcing rules. Changes are happening. MLB is trying to save baseball (0:06). I had said before the MLB season started that players were NOT ready for the season. What have we seen now? Injuries. So many injuries. This is a major problem. Where do I even start? Scherzer, Strasburg, Osuna, Verlander, Ohtani, Soroka... and on and on it goes (13:55). Now let's talk about what's happening at Texas Tech. It has to do with the women's basketball team and the complete and udder negligence shown by the coaching staff (22:15). Review - Woodstock Documentary (32:30). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what I would do if my players wore shirts in support of a candidate that was running against one of the owners of the team. This is the case in the WNBA with players wearing "Vote Warnock" shirts before games to oppose Sen. Kelly Loeffler (37:00). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Is the NCAA ready for a college football season? (8/5)
Today's word of the day is 'NCAA' as in college athletics as in college football as in what is this mess we're dealing with? UCONN announced today that it would be cancelling its football season (0:06). The Big Ten released its schedule for the fall season. How did this happen? I have some questions. And as we were talking Big Ten the athletes released a statement on The Players' Tribune. They listed some items that they want taken care of before they agree to play this season. We need to talk about what I agree with in this release (12:00). The Pac-12 is taking out loans for their schools in case they lose revenue this year. This is fascinating and I need to explain this to you all (18:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I believed it was possible that Colorado State football coaches told players not to report coronavirus symptoms (23:42). Now let's talk about false positives. Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was put on the covid-IR after a positive test that came back as a false-positive (33:45). Review - Rolling Thunder Revue - A Bob Dylan Story (42:30). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB just going to keep on keeping on (8/4)
Today's word of the day is 'salacious' as in the word Derek Jeter used to describe the Marlins behavior, or rather, the behavior the team did not engage in. So what exactly happened with the Marlins? How did this outbreak happen? Let's discuss what the team found out (0:06). We always talk about landing the plane and today I went so far off course my story ended up on a different continent. So back to baseball... Andrew McCutchen is NOT happy with the Miami Marlins. He had some choice words about how their actions have negatively impacted the rest of the league (14:50). We got an update from the St. Louis Cardinals on which players have test positive for covid-19. The biggest name was Yadier Molina who released a statement (20:00). Review - No Direction Home, Bob Dylan (25:25). Let's update everyone on the situation going on at Washington State with head coach Nick Rolovich (28:45). Let's talk about The Rock. Former WWE superstar, current action-movie star, and now co-owner of the XFL with Dany Garcia (25:15). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.
