Spiritual Gems From The Holy Cross Bookstore, #2: Fr. Philip Halikias - SCOBA Guidelines For Orthodox Christians In Ecumenical Relations

Happy Wednesday, listeners! Join us today for our second episode of Spiritual Gems from The Holy Cross Bookstore. Today, Nicholas Botsolis, our podcast host and Bookstore Operations Manager, talks with Fr. Philip Halikias. To continue with the theme of last week’s Holy Cross Connections episode (which you can listen to here), they’ll be talking about the SCOBA Guidelines for Orthodox Christians in Ecumenical Relations. These guidelines, as assembled by the SCOBA, are included as supplementary material to Introduction to Orthodox Canon Law. In their conversation, Nicholas and Fr. Philip will give an engaging overview of ecumenism and the Guidelines themselves.  Fr. Philip graduated from Boston University with his Doctor of Ministry degree in January 2021, wherein his dissertation focused on the ecumenical dimensions of Orthodox and Catholic mixed marriages. Fr. Philip also developed a support group for mixed-marriage couples in order to help promote their life in the Church. He was assigned and began at St. Nicholas Church on March 14th, 2021, as parish priest. Fr. Philip works full-time at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology as the coordinator for the Office of Equity and Compliance. Fr. Philip also serves on the National Council of Churches Faith and Order Commission. George Parsenios is Professor of New Testament at Holy Cross, where he has also served as Academic Dean. Before working at Holy Cross, he taught for almost two decades at Princeton Theological Seminary as Professor of the New Testament. His teaching and research explore the interaction of early Christianity with classical literature, as well as the interpretation of the New Testament in the early church. He is the author of three books and several articles on New Testament themes, specializing in the Gospel and Letters of John.
