Veteran's Day Special: Leadership and The Finest Hours with Vince Patton, USCG Master Chief (Ret)

High Reliability, The Healthcare FM Podcast is brought to you by Gosselin/Martin Associates. Our show discusses the issues, challenges, and opportunities within the Healthcare Facilities Management (FM) function. On February 18, 1952, four Coast Guard men risked their lives in a howling nor’easter off Cape Cod to save 32 mariners on the shipwrecked, broken-in half tanker called the Pendleton. They brought all but one to safety in a wooden motorboat (CG36500) designed to hold no more than 12 people. The Coast Guard called it the greatest rescue by a small boat in its history. The four men were called heroes. They shrugged it off and said they were just doing their job.We are joined by Vince Patton, Master Chief Petty Officer (Retired), United States Coast Guard, and Ed Loughran, Owner, Charles River Wine Cellars, to discuss this incredible rescue mission.Along the way, we ask and Vince answers if effective leaders still exist, we speak about Vince's love of his hometown Detroit Lions, and we talk about some famous US military figures. This story goes far beyond our usual topic area of healthcare facilities management and healthcare engineering. Subscribe to the Healthcare Facilities Network
