SPOS #706 - Scott Stratten On How To Not Be A Jackass

Welcome to episode #706 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #706 - Host: Mitch Joel. He is one of my best friends, which always makes the "formal" conversation a little challenging. Scott Stratten and I (along with Ron Tite) have been texting, supporting and being there for one another on daily basis for years. With that, it doesn't change the fact that Scott is one impressive, caring and giving human being. Some have called him one of the ultimate sales and marketing truth slayer. Scott is a famed (in fact, hall of fame) professional speaker and co-author (with his wife, Alison Stratten). Scott helps organizations see their business through a new lens with his unconventional “unmarketing” views and vanguard approach to building and maintaining real customer relationships. They have authored six bestselling books. Most recently, they published, The Jackass Whisperer - How to deal with the worst people at work, at home and online ― even when the Jackass is you. Spoiler Alert: We are all jackasses. This is a conversation about online habits, mean people and how we can all stop, think and try to be a little less jackassy. Enjoy the conversation... SPOS #702 - Scott H. Young On Mastering Hard Skills Quickly

Welcome to episode #702 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #702 - Host: Mitch Joel. Here's a question that I often think about: Can you learn something really well in a short amount of time? I am not alone. Scott H. Young has also been thinking about what is the best way to learn. Scott believes that learning is the key to living well. This pursuit led him to take on two year-long experiments in learning: The MIT Challenge, where he learned MIT’s 4-year computer science curriculum without taking classes, and The Year Without English, where he went with a friend to learn four languages in one year. Mission accomplished. He did it. He started writing his blog before his 18th birthday, because he was interested in behavior change, which led to how we learn, which led to self-mastery and career development. His first book is called, Ultralearning - Master Hard Skills, Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Career. There's something here. From the book: "In these tumultuous times of economic and technological change, staying ahead depends on continual self-education—a lifelong mastery of fresh ideas, subjects, and skills. If you want to accomplish more and stand apart from everyone else, you need to become an ultralearner." Happy Holidays! Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 54:35. Hello from beautiful Montreal. SPOS #701 - Denise Lee Yohn On The Brands To Watch In 2020

Welcome to episode #701 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #701 - Host: Mitch Joel. What brands should you pay attention to in the coming year? Denise Lee Yohn is the go-to person when it comes to thinking about branding. Recently, she published her list of Brands To Watch In 2020. In her Forbes article, Denise names one brand per letter of the alphabet. The list includes Amazon and Facebook (of course), as well as non-tech sector newsmakers like Nike and LVMH. Within the article are some unconventional takes on brands in the areas of privacy, mobility, and even masculinity. Denise's last business book, Fusion – How integrating brand and culture powers the world’s greatest companies, came out in 2018, and it followed her work on what it takes to not only stand out, but constantly deliver a great brand experience for customers. When it comes to brands doing things right – constantly and consistently – I always think of the work that Denise Lee Yohn is doing. From her first book, What Great Brands Do – The Seven Brand-Building Principles That Separate The Best From The Rest, to the article she authored for the Harvard Business Review titled, Start-Ups Need a Minimum Viable Brand, then came Extraordinary Experiences, that profiled seven popular, powerful retail and restaurant brands. Denise is a brand thinking juggernaut. Brands have changed dramatically... and will continue to evolve. Enjoy the conversation… Running time: 58:26. Hello from beautiful Montreal.
