SPOS #766 - Kevin Kolbe On Great Video And The Creator Economy
Welcome to episode #766 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #766 - Host: Mitch Joel. If you have had to deep dive into presenting via video (who didn't?), odds are that you have heard about Ecamm Live (which is a great software for the Mac that enables anyone to make their livestream, Zoom meeting, virtual presentation really standout). Ecamm has done a phenomenal job of recruiting those in the creator space to be both brand evangelists and help bring these video experts to a much broader audience. That's where I first became captivated by Kevin Kolbe, his livestreams, and his knowledge of what it takes to create compelling video. Kevin sees himself as a video coach and content creator, who has a passion for helping people use video to share their gifts and make an impact in the world. His background is much deeper than his current high profile YouTubing world. He started our as a radio DJ, then went into television and creative direction. As the TV industry changed, Kevin decided to use his experience and passion for creating content to start his own video marketing business. His own video content has really helped me fast-forward my skills through his tips, tutorials, insights and storytelling. Want to amp up your video skills? Enjoy the conversation... SPOS #765 - Kat Cole On The State Of Leadership - Live From Clubhouse
Welcome to episode #765 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #765 - Host: Mitch Joel. Welcome to the our second-ever live podcast recoding from Clubhouse (the new social audio app that is all the rage these days). This conversation was recorded on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021. Our conversation this week is with someone I met many moons back on the speaking circuit, Kat Cole. Kat is a true force of nature. Many know her from her appearance on Undercover Boss, while most in the corporate world know the story of how she went from being a Hooters hostess out high school to becoming one of the executive vice presidents at Hooters of America. This lead her to a spectactular ascent to the role of President at Focus Brands (the holding company of Jamba, Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, Carvel, Shlotzsky's, and many more), where she recently left. Kat is a seasoned executive and leader with deep expertise building global brands, businesses, and high performing teams. Now, she is focused on a few areas, including being a board member for both corporate and non-profit organizations, an investor and advisor, and someone who is also passionate about creating compelling content to help businesses grow and do better for the world. Kat has her Substack newsletter, Checking In With Kat Cole, and holds regular events and office hours in Clubhouse (where she commands an impressive following of over one million fans). Most recently she has launched, Audio Collective, along with forty other founding members/creators, as an agency to helps brands get more engaged in the Clubhouse community. Enjoy the conversation... SPOS #764 - Ethan Kross On The Power (And Problem) Of Self-Talk
Welcome to episode #764 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #764 - Host: Mitch Joel. Ethan Kross is one of the world’s leading experts on controlling the conscious mind. A professor in the University of Michigan’s Psychology Department and its Ross School of Business, he studies how the conversations people have with themselves impact their health, performance, decisions and relationships. He moved to the University of Michigan in 2008, where he founded the Emotion & Self Control Laboratory. Ethan's new book is Chatter - The Voice in Our Head, Why It Matters, and How to Harness It. The book explores the silent conversations we have with ourselves. Interweaving groundbreaking behavioral and brain research from his lab with real-world case studies — from a pitcher who forgets how to pitch, to a Harvard undergrad negotiating her double life as a spy — Kross explains how these conversations shape our lives, work, and relationships. He warns that giving in to negative and disorienting self-talk — what he calls “chatter” — can tank our health, sink our moods, strain our social connections, and cause us to fold under pressure. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 53:13. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Subscribe over at Apple Podcasts. Please visit and leave comments on the blog - Six Pixels of Separation. SPOS #761 - Dave Crenshaw On How To Master Productivity
Welcome to episode #761 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #761 - Host: Mitch Joel. There are days when I am not feeling at all productive. I usually think to myself, “WWDCD?" Or... "What Would Dave Crenshaw Do?" That's how much Dave has inspired me, since we both met in a mastermind that was formulated during the early days of the pandemic. What I didn't know, when I first met Dave, is that he is more than an author, speaker, and famed online trainer, but he really does know how to help leaders master their productivity. If you don't believe me, look no further than his courses on LinkedIn Learning. The sheer popularity and volume of his teachings are on display (over 35 different courses!). Dave’s courses on LinkedIn Learning - such as Time Management Fundamentals and Improving Your Focus - are consistently among the most popular in the world, and have received tens of millions of views. He has written five books that have been published in eight languages, the most recent/popular of which is The Myth of Multitasking, which just came out in a second edition. He is the founder and CEO of Invaluable Inc., a coaching and training corporation that promotes productive leadership on both the personal and organizational level. Enjoy the conversation... SPOS #760 - Anne Janzer On Writing A Book That Makes A Difference
Welcome to episode #760 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #760 - Host: Mitch Joel. I have this weird obsession with books about book writing. I collect them. I search them out. I devour them. With that, you would think that I would have written more than two of them myself (not there yet). One of my favorite books about writing is The Writer's Process by Anne Janzer. The book came out in 2016. A few years back, I started a private Facebook group for business and non-fiction book authors. Writing and coming up with ideas to write is a solitary (for most) experience, so it's an amazingly powerful space for fellow business and non-fiction book authors to congregate. That's where I first "met" Anne. She's authored other books: The Workplace Writer's Process, Writing To Be Understood, Subscription Marketing, and her latest, Get The Word Out - Write A Book That Makes A Difference. Who should write a book? How do you market a book? If you've ever thought about writing a book or how books can be a great way to tell your story, this show is for you. Anne is a fellow writing geek and non-fiction author cheerleader. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 1:00:04. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Subscribe over at Apple Podcasts. SPOS #759 - Scott Devine On Building A Thriving Online Business (No Gimmicks)
Welcome to episode #759 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #759 - Host: Mitch Joel. If we have learned anything during this pandemic, it is this: the brands that are either purely digital or the ones with a strong digital component felt much less pain. Look no further than the value of a company like Amazon or the incredible rise of Shopify. Watching so many entrepreneurs turn their small businesses into something more “digital" is a sight to behold. Scott Devine and his business, Scott's Bass Lessons, is a great case study. We're about to hear my many worlds collide in this episode, so I hope that you will stick with it and enjoy the ride. One of my favorite YouTube channels is Scott’s Bass Lessons. I love the way Scott Devine plays the bass, teaches the bass, and his mini-documentaries and interviews. He’s inspiring. It turns out that I am not alone. But that’s just one small part of what makes Scott unique. He’s best known for his online bass school, Scott’s Bass Lessons. SBL (for short) isn’t just the biggest online school for bassists, it’s the biggest online school for any instrument (put aside institutions that teach multiple instruments). Scott prefers to call it the “Netflix for bass players.” And in the last decade, he’s built the company into an operation with nearly 25,000 students/customers. What moved him from gigging to teaching? How does he keep his students so engaged online? Scott is a real triple-threat when it comes to music (he can play, teach, and market his business). I’ve been a fan since of his since I first started watching his videos, and his journey is a fascinating one that has led to millions of views and millions of fans and followers and a growing business. SPOS #758 - Lisa McLeod On Selling With Noble Purpose
Welcome to episode #758 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #758 - Host: Mitch Joel. She has an incredible work ethic. That was one (of the many) takeaway from this episode. Lisa McLeod is a strategy consultant, executive coach, and keynote speaker who has worked with some of the coolest companies on the planet. Lisa is the author of five books, including the global bestseller, Selling With Noble Purpose - How to Drive Revenue and Do Work That Makes You Proud, which she just updated and released recently. She wrote the book because her research revealed that salespeople with a purpose bigger than money, who truly want to make a difference to their customers, outsell salespeople focused on targets and quotas. Her other books include, Leading with Noble Purpose and The Triangle of Truth. If that were not enough she is one of LinkedIn Learning's most popular instructors, delivering over 25 courses, including Selling with Authenticity and Finding Your Purpose at Work. Prior to all of this excitement, Lisa was a sales leader at Procter & Gamble, and later at Vital Learning as VP of Sales, where their team doubled new business growth and increased recurring revenue by 50%. In addition to her business books, she also authored a collection of humor essays that was featured on Oprah.com, and her first book, Forget Perfect, was the subject of a segment on Good Morning America. SPOS #757 - Erich Joachimsthaler on New Ways To Create Real Value In Business Today
Welcome to episode #757 of Six Pixels of Separation. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #757 - Host: Mitch Joel. Erich Joachimsthaler, is a rare combination of consultant, author, entrepreneur, academic, and researcher who sheds light on massive branding, marketing, and digital transformations. A man after my own heart. He has authored several books and hundreds of articles. He is both the founder & CEO of Vivaldi and a visiting professor and lecturer at several universities around the world. His latest book, The Interaction Field, decodes the emergence of a new business model of the same name. Erich predicts that successful companies will shift from transactional business models to an interactional model. This new model goes further than solely extracting value for the benefit of investors or shareholders, it creates value for all participants engaged in the Interaction Field, as well as society at large. Prior to writing The Interaction Field, Erich also authored Brand Leadership and Hidden In Plain Sight. Enjoy the conversation... Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 55:33.
