Jesus Our Champion

Rob Conti | 1 Samuel 17 | SWO20 Tuesday MorningWhen David challenged Goliath, the Philistine giant, his trust was in the Lord.In Genesis 3, our first champion (Adam) failed and we became slaves of sin.We are made in the image of God, that image has been tainted by the stain of sin and brokenness within our hearts. Genesis 1:26 reminds us that God's good design established our first parents to rule over everything as ambassadors of God’s glory. But, in Genesis 3:1, Adam and Eve crushed under the temptation of the serpent. It’s not about the fruit. They followed their desires of rebellion because they wanted to be like God (and us with them). We weren't made to receive that glory!Hebrews 2:6-18 is our message of rescue! Christ identified Himself with humanity, became human, and went to the Cross so that He could absorb the wrath of God for us. “It is finished” (John 19:30).By His death, He defeated death. Jesus is our final Champion. We are no longer slaves to sin; He has undone the power of Satan. Where Adam fell and failed, Jesus redeemed it. He took it back and holds the final victory. Godly Manhood Doesn't Happen by Accident: Guys Breakout

Zach Mabry | Colossians 3:1-4 | Guys BreakoutWe are impulse-driven, and we put ourselves in situations where we make bad choices. Sometimes, we need someone to talk us off the ledge. 2 Commands to Follow:Seek the things that are above.Set your mind on heavenly things.Right now you are becoming the man you're going to be. There is no guarantee that you'll become a man in maturity, simply by getting older. Culture today expects nothing from you. Prove them wrong! Be an exception in this generation.“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.” (1 Corinthians 13:11)Ask yourself, "Is this what a godly man would do?" Put to death things of the flesh. Kill them.Be a man of the word, not of the world. Guard your heart according to His word. Become a type of man that a wise woman would want to marry. This won't happen by accident so apply yourself.Learn to communicate well. Learn more about our student and adult conferences athttps://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. But, we must receive it.God's love is patient – It's available to us. It's willing to wait. He will wait for years for us to love Him back.God's love is kind – It builds others up and doesn't put others to shame.God's love is content – In God's presence, there is fullness of joy.God's love is humbleGod's love is respectful – Jesus views us as priceless and worthy. Redefining Ministry Success in Student Ministry

SWO20 Leader Breakout | Rob Conti | Thursday MorningRob Conti examined the common reasons so many student pastors feel unsuccessful in ministry and how we should align our definition of ministry success with a biblical standard. There is a danger of adopting worldly views on yourself when it comes to your ministry.  We tend to view success through the approval of man.How does Scripture define success? Not numbers. Not approval of man. We're held accountable by God. Live in faithfulness towards the Lord. Be faithful to the Word of God and to His character."For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe." (1 Timothy 4:10)Six key reminders:Be obedient to God's word.Serve God and others.Love God.Love His people.Believe His word.Spend time in prayer. References:2 Timothy 2:151 Timothy 31 Timothy 4:61 Corinthians 4:1-2Learn more about our student and adult conferences athttps://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. Preparing Your Students for Difficult Questions

Zach Mabry | SWO20 Leader Breakout | Friday MorningIf we believe the Bible then we must believe all of the Bible. We do not have the option of dismissing any part of it because of some kind of current, cultural pressure. And if we are going to be faithfully discipling our students in preparation for when they leave our ministry and embark on adulthood in the “real world” then we need to be preparing them for “real world” situations. In this session, Zach Mabry taught through some often misunderstood teachings of the Bible and gave clarity to help aid our students to be equipped at the onslaught they will most assuredly face in a culture hostile to God.Download the SlidesLearn more about our student and adult conferences athttps://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. Conflict & Confrontation in Student Ministry

Spencer Davis | SWO Summer Camp | Leader BreakoutWhere there are people, there will be conflict. How do we handle it well?Too often, believers lack the Biblical wisdom and practical skill needed to confront or handle conflict well. As a result, opportunities for pastoral care or personal connection become contentious, confusing and hurtful. This breakout for student pastors explores Biblical principles needed to navigate confrontation and conflict, both pastorally and personally, and maximize the opportunities for relational grace that conflict provides. At its root, conflict stems from improper wanting. Replace inward passions for Godward passions. Quick Reminders:Learn to see conflict coming in yourself.Look for signs that the other person is angry.Learn your tendencies and fight them.Reboot and make things safe again.Don't focus on winning, focus on finding a solution.Before/When you confront someone:Ask if it’s true.Ask them to tell you about it.How can we move forward.Let me tell you what I think/ May I tell you what I think? What have you heard me say?How do you feel?References:James 4Proverbs 18Learn more about our student and adult conferences athttps://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S.
