Finding the Answer to your Pickleball Question - Ask the Right Question :)
We want to know what shot to hit, or what to do in a game situation. How do we get the right answer? With so many variables, you need a framework or structure you can use to answer your own questions. The thing about pickleball is that there are lots of variables in any point or game situation, but the sport is static, and that's what keeps us challenged out there. It's a beautiful aspect of pickleball. That's why, In our teachings, rather than just simply answering the specific question, we try to provide you with a framework and give you a structure within which you can answer the questions yourself. In this episode I'll give you an example of a question you can use when you're playing with a partner. The question was posed by one of our system members and has to do with playing on the return side. Use your understanding of the framework of pickleball to ask the right questions.Send us an email: therapy@betterpickleball.com The Pickleball Academy: https://betterpickleball.com/product-category/academy/Better Pickleball Camps: https://betterpickleball.com/pickleball-camps/THE Pickleball System: http://thepickleballsystem.com/As always, thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. Navigating a Pickleball Game - the Score Does Not Tell the Story
You need to be playing in an environment where there's a chance of losing. If you're playing in environments where there's a 0% chance that you're going to lose, you're not playing at level. And to my way of view in the game, you're not really doing anything. As always, thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. If you have not yet subscribed to the podcast ... wait what?? you haven't subscribed? ... you know what to do.In this week's episode we're going to talk about Navigating a Game of pickleball, focusing here on a big picture. I'm going to tell you a story that happened to me during a game that I played in nationals and how I experienced it. From this week onwards we want to try doing a single subject for the podcast. This will allow us to really hone in on that one subject and have that one subject in mind when we go out to play. Then the riff episodes will come out from time to time during the week and will be marked as special episodes. Get the Winning Gratitude (see what we did there?) :) PLUS lessons from Nationals
Thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. If you have not yet subscribed to the podcast ... wait what?? you haven't subscribed? ... you know what to do.It's been Thanksgiving week! This week we're going to talk about how the holiday relates to pickleball. How can we use gratitude to play our best pickleball? Gratitude is all around us in sense of the items that we can be grateful for when we're on a pickleball court or everywhere. I share with you a practice you can do to develop gratitude while in the pickleball court. We also talk about why you play, and a little bit about distractions and how they can take away from our experience with Pickleball. In the riff, I share three lessons from the nationals that I think are helpful in terms of the mental part of the game. And the first one is the blame game, where one partner makes another partner feel bad for things that are perfectly natural in any sport, including pickleball. There is nothing that undermines the ability of a team to perform more than blame. Struggling as a Pickleball Player - Here's an Alternative
As you grow and improve as a player, struggle will be a part of the process. In this episode, we talk about struggle and how it can lead to a deeper relationship with the game of pickleball.Whether you're trying to improve or not, you're going to struggle as a pickleball player. Struggle is what happens to us whenever we are trying to grow in anything in life, including our pickleball game. There's going to be moments where you're out there on the court and you're wondering to yourself, 'Why am I struggling so much?'I've been thinking a lot about this subject- STRUGGLE, player struggling. You won't find success in your game through stagnation. Struggle will be a part of your process as a pickleball player if you want improvement, further growth and a deeper relationship with Pickleball than you currently have. In the riff I share my thoughts of the nationals, which was awesome, a ton of fun watching all the players out there competing and giving their best. 3-Phase Pickleball: Preparation, Play, and Process PLUS Handling Advice
We divide the playing experience into 3 phases: pre-play, play, and post-play. Each phase has its own purpose, and paying attention to each phase will help you get the most out of your day on the court. The first phase is pre-play which is the phase before you step out onto the court. This phase pays dividends when you actually get out there as you hit the ball. The second phase is while you're playing the game and in this podcast episode I explain to you two things you can do while you're playing in this phase. The last phase is after you play the game and build your next steps. In the riff, I'm going to continue the conversation from last week about why players give advice. We got a lot of feedback from that episode and today we're going to switch to the other side on how to deal with advice coming your way.Join our email list- https://betterpickleball.com/ Pickleball Sytem Class- http://thepickleballsystem.com/ Total PickleballJoin us during our November camps here: http://betterpickleball.com/pickleball-camps/As always, thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. Pickleball is Messy - and that is Awesome PLUS Why Players Share "Advice"
Today we talk about messy pickleball and how we can use that to our benefit when we play. When we look at folks who are successful, we see the result of a lot of messy steps they've taken. They've embraced the fact that pickleball is going to be messy and they use that in their improvement along the way which ends up with some level of success in their field. As always, thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. If you have not yet subscribed to the podcast ... wait what?? you haven't subscribed? ... you know what to do.You'll enjoy your game better if you embrace that fact because sometimes you are going to miss a return of serve or to hit a short return of serve and other messy shots. Embracing that helps you not get so down on yourself because pickleball improvement is a messy proposition. In the riff we talk about why folks give advice about pickleball and why perhaps they are so adamant about the correctness of the advice that they're giving. Managing Your Negative Self-Talk | Special Episode with CJ Johnson
How you think is how you will perform, whether you are an athlete or not. And as human beings, it's so much easier to say and believe something that's negative vs something that's positive. As always, thanks for joining us on Pickleball Therapy - the podcast dedicated to your pickleball improvement. If you have not yet subscribed to the podcast ... wait what?? you haven't subscribed? ... you know what to do.I've been mulling over the idea of self-talk for the past few weeks, specifically the impact of our self-talk on our performance on the pickleball courts. Positive self talk is key to success in any sport. Unfortunately, most of our internal self-talk is negative. What can we do when it happens to us out on the pickleball court? The first step is to recognize our negative self-talk. Listen to this episode as I share with you a case scenario of the Ryder Cup, what we can put in place when negative talk happens and also give you examples of negative self-talk that destroy our confidence.Don't should or could on yourself!

Our most popular episode! A new look at what “winning” means in pickleball and how this re-framing can improve your relationship with pickleball.
