#218: Josh Baldwin, Mark Hall, & Michael Cochren From the K-Love Fan Awards [Podcast]
I haven’t done many in person interviews as part of the Beyond Sunday podcast. Most have been over a Skype, FaceTime or phone call. But that’s about to change.
A couple weeks ago my wife and I headed down to the Grand O’l Opry in Nashville to cover the 2019 K-Love fan awards. It was such a treat to interview a number of artists in person.
This is part 1 of those conversations and we have Josh Baldwin, Mark Hall, & Michael Cochren on the show today. A great balance of local church, songwriting, and ministry. Enjoy!

If you’re a musician, you know there’s nothing like a well built, inspiring instrument. A great instrument is an inspiration itself, beyond just the functionality and playability. That’s why it’s important to have an instrument that inspires you and holds up to your active lifestyle.
Let me introduce you to Zamar Instruments. Zamar builds custom guitars that are absolutely beautiful, but that also play and sound amazing. Zamar is an amazing small business, passionate about offering individualized attention to each instrument and client for a second-to-none experience. And for you Hebrew wizards out there, Zamar is an Old Testament word for praising the Lord on a stringed instrument.
All the guitars from Zamar are hand built but there is also the option of a custom built guitar that you design from the ground up. Head on over to zamarinstruments.com and mention the Beyond Sunday podcast to get 15% off your guitar. Or just shoot an email to nathan@zamarinstruments.com.

Is there a worship team tool you can’t live without? For me, that’s Planning Center. I remember the days of excel spreadsheets and phone calls trying to nail down who was going to be available for Sunday. When we switched to Planning Center nearly 10 years ago, it changed the game for us. All of a sudden, we had an all-in-one solution for scheduling our teams, coordinating schedules, communicating about weekend details, and getting responses from band members. A week doesn’t go by where I don’t use Planning Center.
Maybe many of you use Planning Center to schedule your teams and organize your services. While that’s fantastic, it just scratches the surface of what PCO can do for you. If you’re looking to advance to Planning Center Ninja status, you need to use it as full church management software system. Planning Center provides Check-ins for your kids ministry, an online giving system, managing people and small groups, event registrations, resources, music stand, and a mobile app for your congregation. Crazy right?
Planning Center is offering a 30 day FREE trial so you can see for yourself how amazing this service is. After the 30 days are up, pricing all depends on the size of your church. I can say it’s worth the investment of every penny. It’s an easy, low cost solution that yields incredible results.

#217: Leonard Jones on Worship Trends, Prophetic Music, & Practice [Podcast]
Never practice the things you already know. Always be working on something that’s a little too hard for you.”Leonard Jones
When I was in middle school I came across some CDs that changed my view of worship. I listened to Passion, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, and Delirious. But I also listened to some albums from Morningstar Ministries. The albums were full of spontaneous, 30 minute songs. Incredible musicians. Some weird stuff. But I loved it.
One of the worship leaders was Leonard Jones. For 50 years Leonard has been serving in worship ministry, not only leading worship but raising up the next generation of worship leaders at Morningstar. Many of the well-known worship leaders you know were trained under Leonard.
And I love that he’s sharing his wisdom on the podcast. One of my desires with this podcast is to get a broad view of the worship community and learn from the best in different streams – from catholic to charismatic and back.
Prepare to be challenged…

#212: Rory Noland on Leading Artists, Worship, and Spiritual Formation [Podcast]
There was a book I read in college that challenged me deeply. It was called Thriving As an Artist in the Church. It was pastoral, wise, and carried compassion for both artists and pastors.
Then I went on to read a prior book called The Heart of the Artist. Both books were by this guy Rory Noland. And today we have the privilege of hearing from this legend.
We talk church, contemplative worship, spiritual formation, leading artists, and more.
Straight fire!
