Jive Book Review: Odin's Wife (Frigg and Jord)
Is Odin's wife Frigg the same as his lover Jord the Earth goddess? William P. Reaves thinks they are the same figure and that her cult survived in to recent times among German peasants who called her Frau Holda. I will briefly review his book on the subject here. Jive Book Review - The Mythology of the British Isles by Geoffrey Ashe
The British Isles draw their rich mythological heritage from Brythonic, Gaelic, Anglo-Saxon and Norse sources yet all have been filtered through the much more recent and severely distorting lens of medieval Christian chroniclers. People like Geoffrey of Monmouth invented their own additions to many historical and legendary stories which persist to this day. This means the mythology derives more from scholarship than folklore. Geoffrey Ashe did a good job of sorting fact from fiction while compiling all these myths in his book. Where did blonde hair come from?
Where did blonde hair come from? How did it evolve and what purpose does it serve for human beings? Why is it more common in Scandinavia? Is Scandinavia the birth place of blonde hair? Did Indo-Europeans bring blonde hair to Europe or was it already there? What is the relationship between lactose tolerance, the ability to drink milk, and blondism? There are many questions people have about blonde hair and I am going to try and answer them in this live stream tonight! This channel depends on your support:Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/survivethejivePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/survivethejiveSubscribestar: https://subscribestar.com/survive-the...Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/survivethejiveMerch store: https://teespring.com/stores/survive-the-jiveFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/SurviveTheJiveTwitter: https://twitter.com/SurvivetheJive

The Odinist Fellowship and their Pagan Temple - Interview with Ralph Harrison
Ralph Harrison has been an Odinist for 40 years. He is the Director of the Odinist Fellowship, the UK’s only registered charity for the indigenous faith of the English people. They acquired a 16th century chapel in Newark which was consecrated on Midsummer's Day 2014 as the first heathen Temple in England for well over a thousand years. You can donate to the charity or the temple using the links below. Ralph and I had a nice chat about the Heathen religion, its rise in popularity in recent years due to the success of TV programs like Vikings, and also the dangers the faith faces from new age influences like Wicca and naturalism. Magic, Oracles and Divination in Pagan Europe - with Dr. Boaz
Magic is synonymous with paganism but that is due in part to misconceptions. Magic exists in the Jewish and Christian traditions too and not all pagans used magic or performed divination. Magic is not a form of devotional piety for pagans. Historically, the only form of magic that seems to be associated with piety is prognostication in the service of the state/ethnos. Even other forms of prognostication were really separate from normal religious activities. In this stream Dr Boaz and I will look at the function of the Oracle, diviner, witch in many Indo-European cultures; mainly Germanic pagans and Romans but also Greeks and Celts too. This video was originally exclusive to StJ patrons from patreon and subscribe star. Celsus, Chaldean Oracles and Roman diversity in the Imperial era
How does what we know about the changing demographics of Imperial Rome inform our understanding of the rise of Christianity within it, the importance of the Chaldean oracles as a "bible" for neoplatonists and the apparent ignorance of pagan theology displayed by Saint Paul when he delivered a sermon at the Areopagus in Athens? I am going to chat about this in tonight's Jive Talk. Ban Anglo-Saxon? The Push to remove Anglo-Saxons from academic discourse
There is a terrible new development in Medievalism. A push from activists to completely ban the use of the word Anglo-Saxon.It started with grievance monger Rambaran-Olm complaining that Anglo-Saxon is exclusionary and that AS studies are too white. Her blogs and complaints resulted in the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists (ISAS) agreeing to change its name. This podcast depends on your support:Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/survivethejivePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/survivethejiveSubscribestar: https://subscribestar.com/survive-the-jive

The Lycian Peasants in Ovid's Metamorphoses
This is an excerpt from a new film entitled "In Search of the Earth-Mother of Anatolia" - In this scene I visit the ruins of the holy Lycian site of Letoon where the goddess Leto was worshipped in ancient times. I read a story from Ovid about how Leto came to Lycia and had a run in with the local peasants when they wouldn't let her drink from a pond.
