Magic, Oracles and Divination in Pagan Europe - with Dr. Boaz
Magic is synonymous with paganism but that is due in part to misconceptions. Magic exists in the Jewish and Christian traditions too and not all pagans used magic or performed divination. Magic is not a form of devotional piety for pagans. Historically, the only form of magic that seems to be associated with piety is prognostication in the service of the state/ethnos. Even other forms of prognostication were really separate from normal religious activities. In this stream Dr Boaz and I will look at the function of the Oracle, diviner, witch in many Indo-European cultures; mainly Germanic pagans and Romans but also Greeks and Celts too. This video was originally exclusive to StJ patrons from patreon and subscribe star. Celsus, Chaldean Oracles and Roman diversity in the Imperial era
How does what we know about the changing demographics of Imperial Rome inform our understanding of the rise of Christianity within it, the importance of the Chaldean oracles as a "bible" for neoplatonists and the apparent ignorance of pagan theology displayed by Saint Paul when he delivered a sermon at the Areopagus in Athens? I am going to chat about this in tonight's Jive Talk. Ban Anglo-Saxon? The Push to remove Anglo-Saxons from academic discourse
There is a terrible new development in Medievalism. A push from activists to completely ban the use of the word Anglo-Saxon.It started with grievance monger Rambaran-Olm complaining that Anglo-Saxon is exclusionary and that AS studies are too white. Her blogs and complaints resulted in the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists (ISAS) agreeing to change its name. This podcast depends on your support:Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/survivethejivePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/survivethejiveSubscribestar: https://subscribestar.com/survive-the-jive

The Lycian Peasants in Ovid's Metamorphoses
This is an excerpt from a new film entitled "In Search of the Earth-Mother of Anatolia" - In this scene I visit the ruins of the holy Lycian site of Letoon where the goddess Leto was worshipped in ancient times. I read a story from Ovid about how Leto came to Lycia and had a run in with the local peasants when they wouldn't let her drink from a pond. Is Halloween Pagan?
Is Halloween evil? Where does All soul's day come from? How have the different pagan festivals of Europe influenced the way it is celebrated today? Many European pagan celebrated an annual feast of the dead, from the Celtic Samhain to the Slavic Dziady. This indicates a common Indo-European origin. In this podcast I look at all the pagan festivals that preceded the Christian Halloween, aka All Soul's day, and explain how they are connected. Is Freyja the same goddess as Eastre?
I am joined by Angriff and Redbeard, who wish to argue that the Norse Goddess Freyja is the same as the West Germanic goddess of the dawn Eastre/Ostara. They have a great theory that deserves your attention and connects myths of Freyja clearly with other Indo-European goddesses of the dawn. This was originally a patron exclusive stream from June 2019. A Pagan folk song - The Two Magicians
This old English folk song seems very pagan and has some clear parallels in old pagan mythology. It is the story of two magical people, originally gods, usually wizards in the song, who can change their shape. One, often a blacksmith, is pursuing the other, often a virgin girl, who attempts to escape by transforming into animals and things, but he pursues by also transforming. It is a bit un PC!This channel depends on your support:Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/survivethejivePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/survivethejiveSubscribestar: https://subscribestar.com/survive-the...Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SurviveTheJiveTwitter: https://twitter.com/SurvivetheJive

Who is Odin? How can we understand this god?
Where did Odin come from? Was he a shamanic figure influenced by the Saami or was he based on the Roman god Mercury? Why did Anglo-Saxon kings claim his as a divine progenitor? Was he Indo-European or even older? I explain the historical origin of the Norse god, Allfather, and I explain the metaphysical significance of his threefold manifestation as depicted in the Gylfaginning. This was an unscripted video covering a lot of ground.More info: http://www.medievalists.net/2012/11/woden-and-his-roles-in-anglo-saxon-royal-genealogy/This channel depends on your support:Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/survivethejivePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/survivethejive
