For this week’s episode, Nate speaks with sociologist Sofya Aptekar (@sofyaaptekar), a professor at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, about her book ‘Green Card Solider: Between Model Immigrant and Security Threat.’ Many people don’t realize that you can enlist in the US military without citizenship—and that, at least for a time, the US military helped facilitate naturalization as a US citizen. But it turns out that it’s not always (or even often) the primary driver of green card holders being recruited.
