Heavin Maier took winding path to becoming an optometrist. Initially drawn to the profession after receiving her first pair of glasses, her undergraduate studies were undecided and included time spent working on an organic farm and in a biogeochemistry lab. Despite a calling towards optometry during this time, she ultimately felt drawn to a career that allowed for more human connection. Returning to school years later, the Heavin finally pursued optometry.
