Chloe Brotheridge | Tips for Recognising and Overcoming Anxiety.
Anxiety affects nearly a quarter of the population and as it's a topic that has come up more than once during podcasts with my guests I felt it was time to dig a little deeper into the topic. While it's completely normal to experience anxiety you may not be aware that you have it. Instead you may feel as though you're just highly stressed, a bit hormonal or just going through a rough patch. I've spoken on this podcast before about anxiety with guests including Luke Hersheson and Pixiwoo's Sam and Nic, as well as my own struggles, and in realising this was a much bigger issue was keen to speak to an expert on the subject. Chloe Brotheridge has written the book The Anxiety Solution, which is a really important read whether you suffer with anxiety yourself, or know someone who does. As well as detailing her own experiences with anxiety and panic attacks the book also offers realistic solutions to bringing down your anxiety levels as well as the comfort of reassuring you that you're not alone. In this podcast we talk about Chloe's book, her own experiences with anxiety, how to spot the warning signs that you're not just stressed, how to help someone you know through anxiety and the benefits of meditation and yoga. Chloe's website www.calmer-you.com provides another resource with links to helpful sites as well as a downloadable meditation and details of her upcoming events, as well as how to get in touch with her. I hope you find this podcast helpful. Leave comments on the page here, over on twitter @emmaguns or you can email me at thebeautypodcast@gmail.com In this week's introduction: My review of the Kerastase Aura Botanica range and Redken's No Blow Dry NBD for Fine Hair - the results have been seriously impressive. I also went to the launch of Abigail James' new book Love Your Skin and have been inundated with queries about the ring I was wearing in one of my instastories. Carmen Carrera | How to Become Your True Self.
Carmen Carrera (@carmen_carrera/@carmen_carrera) joins me on this episode of the show and we cover a lot of ground. From her blossoming acting career, her Showgirl show, her tireless work as an activist within the LGBTQ community as well as how she navigated her own transition. I first came to know of Carmen when she appeared in series three of RuPaul's Drag Race, but a lot has changed since then. Immediately after the show finished filming Carmen began to transition and her birth certificate now reads 'female', a change she admits made her feel 'powerful' and 'validated'. In this episode of the show we talk about her early years in high school, how she navigated the school halls while knowing that she wasn't being her true self, how her friends and mother played a crucial role in her accepting and believing in herself. We talk about her acting career and starring alongside Meryl Streep, being friends with J.Lo and life after Drag Race. Carmen also talks to me about her tireless work as an activist and the documentary Outpost and highlighting the fact that rates of violence against the LGBTQ community in Sao Paolo are among the highest in the world. She also tells me about supporting Gavin Grimm, the transgender teen who was prevented from using the boys' toilets in his school, and why a curriculum of LGBTQ history in schools is a positive step to creating safety and protection for the community. She also tells me about motherhood, breaking down stereotypes and how yoga and meditation have played a crucial role in her journey. Mother Pukka: Choice, Pioneering and Practicality.
Anna Whitehouse is Mother Pukka (@motherpukka/@motherpukka) and she joins me on the show to talk about her website www.motherpukka.co.uk, being an influencer and why she's a 'foghorn for flexible working' (her words). In our conversation we talk about her early journalistic career, being a mum and what it was that prompted her to start Mother Pukka and why the campaign for flexible working for parents is so important to her. I dare you not to be inspired by Anna, not least because she doesn't sugar-coat her messaging, but because she's being true to herself - and in this episode of the show she talks about the highs and lows of doing just that. Her blog post 'I Quit' is mentioned during the show and explains exactly why flexible working is so important to her. She also explains how she handles online trolls, and her early career in journalism. EG xxHey! Why not share your thoughts and insights to make your listening experience even better.
