Dr Gemma Newman | How a plant-based diet can improve your health.

Dr Gemma Newman joins me on the podcast to discuss the many health benefits of a plant-based diet.Gemma has nearly 20 years’ experience as a family doctor, is a member of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and is on the board of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK.I’m moving towards a more plant-based diet because the evidence shows it can have a significant improvement on all sorts of health issues. From reducing inflammation, slowing the ageing process, reducing the risk of certain cardiovascular diseases, reversing and preventing diabetes, reducing symptoms of the menopause, strengthening the immune system, alleviating symptoms of arthritis, lupus and MS, and much more. It’s a fascinating area of research and Gemma is a wonderful resource, not least because she has observed significant improvements in her own health from switching to a Whole Foods Plant-Based diet. However, changing the way you eat is no small feat and you’d be right to have questions. In this episode, @drgemmanewman and I discuss:What a whole foods plant-based diet (WFPB) means and what it looks likes. Why eliminating meat doesn’t mean you won’t be getting enough protein in your diet - and other ‘deficiency’ myths around cutting out meat. Why diets are short-term and WFPB is something to apply in the long-term as a way of life. The confusing messaging coming from the food industry. The impact changing your diet can have on stress and anxiety. The macro and micronutrients of a WFPB diet and where supplementation is and where it isn’t appropriate.Gemma’s wish for us to move towards conservation agriculture.Food freedom and intuitive eating. Her thoughts on ‘healthy at any size’, and much more…To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Have you ever wanted to improve your professional and personal relationships, but didn’t know where to start?Carole Robin teaches interpersonal skills at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in the now ‘legendary’ and ‘life-changing' course Interpersonal Dynamics. If you find building and nurturing strong bonds a challenge or feel unable to handle the challenges that arise when you grow close to others then Carole’s insights will be a revelation. In the course, Interpersonal Dynamics, which she teaches alongside David Bradford, Carole has unpacked the mechanics and ‘science’ of relationships so they can be better understood and optimised. Thankfully, Carole and David have shared these insights in their book Connect: Building Exceptional Relationships with Family, Friends and Colleagues - it’s a brilliant read and a strong recommend from me.In this episode, Carole explains: Why achieving exceptional relationships is within your reach. The importance of vulnerability, curiosity and empathy in building relationships. The risk involved in trying to deepen a relationship. Why you shouldn’t let fear get in the way of learning and growing. How to pay attention to one’s own feelings and the feelings of others. Why we have to get in touch with, and have an appropriate, feelings vocabulary, and much more…Oh, and if you listen to this I guarantee you’ll never say ‘I feel like…’ again without checking yourself. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Bullet Points | Can you have 'burnout' in lockdown?

Can you have burnout in lockdown? Are you at the end of your rope? Have you had it up to ‘here’? Are you over it? Are you just so plain exhausted that you just can't be bothered?I don’t know about you, but all the things that used to push me to this feeling haven’t been present in lockdown. I’m no longer rushing, catching trains, trying to keep appointments and juggling a work and social life. I haven’t gone far or done much outside of my home in nearly a year yet I’m feeling similar feelings to those I’ve felt when I’ve previously burnt the candle at both ends. But how?As I started to investigate what burnout really feels like, what it means, how you get it and how to avoid it, I came across some interesting facts. In this new episode, I talk about why burnout is actually pretty specific, why the language around feeling overworked, exhausted and tired makes matters even more complicated and why now is a good time to give yourself a break.Burnout: The High Cost of Achievement by Herbert Freudenberger The Imposter Cure by Dr Jessamy Hibberd Burnout: Solve your Stress Cycle by Emily NagoskiBurnout Survival Kit: Instant Relief from Modern WorkUntamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living by Glennon DoyleTo join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey!
