Voices In Recovery Podcast

This week, Michelle and Darcy sit down with me and we take a look back over 2023. We talk about how difficult it can be to keep pushing forward when the world appears like it's imploding. When our fellow humans commit genocide on women, children, whole families, and bloodlines across the ocean and call it war. 2023 saw the whole world grieving.

This week's guest, Joey, shares his unbelievable journey with us. In this episode we discuss adult themes that may not be suitable for all ages. Joey's openness about the life he's lived and how he came to be living in Calgary, Alberta Canada is commendable. Without giving away too much, I'll say that my pops was always right, love is the most transformative power there is. Love can bring the light from a long buried darkness even after people tried to extinguish the light as a child. Thank you Joey, we appreciate your courage, strength and hope.

his week's guest, Sue-Shane, stops by and shares her story. They lost their parents at different, incredibly impressionable ages. In so many ways, shaping the wonderfully, compassionate and intelligent woman, who sat with us. I'll leave her story for her to tell in detail, but suffice it to say that the world is a better place with her in it. Thank you Sue-Shane!

Our guest this week is Mark! He stops by and shares his journey from Nigeria to Canada! He loves his country of birth, but it is against the law for him to be who he is freely and openly. He is happy to be here, where he can celebrate his queerness and love however they see fit. We are so glad you are here spreading your smile and warmth to us Mark. Thank you!

This week's guest, Vernon, stops by to share his recovery journey with us. He's a creative soul with his own podcast called, Vernon S Podcast. He is walking the recovery path even though he has difficulty with meetings, he does not rule anything out that might be helpful. This episode is a special episode in which Darcy and I show our support of freeing Palestine! Stopping the continued genocide of Indigenous people across planet Earth including Palestinians. Stopping the stack against Taylor and Adora because its an obvious smear campaign attack on both of these powerful humans... Who's next on the watch list? You, me, maybe all of us if we get out of line....and a couple of other pertinent ideas along the way. In hopes of a future where all children are considered equal and there are no more excuses for murdering them anywhere on this green rock.

This week's guest, James, stops by and shares his journey with us. Not only has James discovered sobriety and recovery, but his life is dramatically different in almost every way. From his time in school as a youth when he dropped out until we catch up with him while he's finishing his doctorate. Anything is possible, thank you James we appreciate you.

This week's guest, Adam, stopped by and shared their story. Although his early life brought a lot of fear, the childhood he had seemed normal. It wasn't until later in his life that Adam would recognize some of the difficulties he overcame. He was introduced to the principles and concepts of twelve step recovery by his father. Adam joined the Canadian military and he found himself suffering in silence because it was illegal to be gay and in the military at that time. It had been illegal in Canada not long before the military changed their views. Thank you for standing strong Adam and for making the world a little safer for all of queer humans!

This week's guest, Danielle stops by and shares her incredible journey with us. She is a harm reduction advocate yet after sitting with her, getting to know her even just a little bit, it is obvious that she is a human advocate. She not only hopes for, but works towards a more compassionate and tolerant world in which people don't have to be further shamed in order to obtain help. She is a strong advocate for alternative treatment options other than the twelve step models. Her experience within some of these programs sheds light on the potential and often darker side of things. This dark side is equally as real as the life saving capabilities of any potential program. We get into it about forced treatment under the guise of compassionate intervention and neither of us believe it is the way forward. Thank you so much Danielle.
