Dan Hampton: ‘Mongo’ was a special talent

Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael died at age 67 yesterday, following a battle with ALS. Dan Hampton spent plenty of time with McMichael. Hampton joined Bob Sirott and Andy Masur to share some of his favorite memories of ‘Mongo’. https://serve.castfire.com/audio/7383335/7383335_2025-04-24-134435.64kmono.mp3 Remembering Steve McMichael Recent Posts Bob Sirott Is eating too much chicken a bad thing? .cls-7{fill:#fff;fill-rule:evenodd} Will the Portage Park Theater be restored? .cls-7{fill:#fff;fill-rule:evenodd} Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2025 inductees .cls-7{fill:#fff;fill-rule:evenodd} Associated Bank Market Outlook: 4/28/25 .cls-7{fill:#fff;fill-rule:evenodd} You can avoid that midlife slump .cls-7{fill:#fff;fill-rule:evenodd} Click for more

Hamp & O’B: Bears enter hibernation on a win over Green Bay

Dan Hampton, Ed O’Bradovich, and Andy Masur react to the Chicago Bears’ 24-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the 2024-2025 season finale. The Bears started the game at the frigid Lambeau Field, playing like they had nothing to lose. With star wide receiver DJ Moore back to receive a punt in the first quarter, he drew everybody’s attention, allowing Josh Blackwell to steal a touchdown completely unnoticed. The historic rivals continued to throw punches at each other as the game continued. Early in the fourth quarter, with the Bears leading 14-13, Caleb Williams hit Moore on a screen pass, which he took 32 yards for a touchdown. Interim Head Coach Thomas Brown kept the offense on the field, looking to go up two scores with a 2-point conversion. The attempt was unsuccessful, but a penalty against Green Bay gave the Bears another shot at the points, this time from the 1-yard line. Instead, Brown sent out the kicking unit, and Santos kicked the extra point, keeping the contest as just a one-possession difference. After the teams traded punts, the Packers found the end zone thanks to an impressive drive from backup quarterback Malik Willis, with starter Jordan Love injuring his hand earlier in the game. On Green Bay’s 2-point try, the ball slipped out of Willis’ hand, and the score was held with Chicago still in front. The Bears’ offense took it down to the 2-minute warning, but a DJ Moore fumble gave the Packers the ball at midfield with a chance to take a late lead. Bears fans were ready to witness another unfathomable loss in this long season. Kicker Brandon McManus drilled a 55-yard field goal in freezing conditions to give his team a 22-21 lead. Williams and the Bears had just 48 seconds to get into Cairo Santos’ field goal range and attempt to steal the win. The rookie used the spacing on the field well to advance the ball, setting up a 51-yard try with two seconds remaining. Santos knocked it through as time expired, and the Bears’ 10-game drought was washed away. https://serve.castfire.com/audio/7136020/7136020_2025-01-06-015520.64kmono.mp3 The Bears finished the 24-25 NFL season with a record of 5-12 (1-5 in Divisional games). Thank you to all the fans, listeners, and callers who contributed to the show. We will see you for the 2025 NFL Draft Special. Hamp & O’B: Flusless but sill useless, 20 road losses in a row

Dan Hampton, Ed O’Bradovich, and Andy Masur react to the Chicago Bears draining defeat to the San Francisco 49ers 38-13. The Bears still struggle to find a way to win a game on the road, marking 20 straight losses away from Soldier Field. In Thomas Brown’s first game as interim head coach, the Bears stumbled out the gate and stayed flat for the rest of the game. Chicago totaled just four net yards of offense in the first half, compared to 319 from the 49ers. Rookie wideout Rome Odunze added two touchdown receptions, but ultimately, the offense stalled out. https://serve.castfire.com/audio/7101969/Hamp_and_OB_12_8_24_2024-12-09-022709.64kmono.mp3 The Hamp & O’B Show returns on Monday, December 16th, as the Bears (4-9) head to Minnesota for a showdown with the Vikings (11-2). Hamp & O’B: Use the timeout! Bears squander sixth straight loss on Thanksgiving

Dan Hampton, Ed O’Bradovich, and Kevin Powell react to the Chicago Bears’ 23-20 loss to the NFL’s best Detroit Lions in another heartbreaking loss on Thanksgiving Day. Caleb Williams turned it on in the 2nd half, throwing for three touchdowns for 222 yards, setting up a chance for the Bears to tie the game with 3:31 left. Before the game’s last play, the Bears had 32 seconds left with one timeout remaining. The offense got to the line with 13 seconds left and didn’t snap the ball until 6 seconds left, resulting in the final play, which was incomplete to Rome Ozdunze when the clock hit zero with one timeout remaining. With that loss, head coach Matt Eberflus now has a record of 5-17 in games decided by seven or fewer points, winning 22.7% of those games and ranking 221st, making him last among coaches with at least 20 games that close. https://serve.castfire.com/audio/7091340/Hamp_and_OB_11_28_24_2024-11-28-221140.64kmono.mp3 The Hamp & O’B Show returns on Sunday, December 8th, as the Bears (4-8) head to San Francisco for a showdown with the 49ers (5-6).
