Episode 182-"Milestones to Manhood" Guest: Dave and Steven Arms

Milestones to Manhood is a way for fathers to help connect with their sons through a Christian right of passage.  The book is a blueprint that specifically instructs a dad in how to do this for their 13-year-old sons.  The idea is for the boy to look back at that point in time where he became a man.  The book outlines the steps to take and how to do the specific events and can also be modified for any family. The book outlines specific steps that help make a father and son relationship stronger as well as giving the son other men in the family or mentors to look up to.  There is a beautiful element of surprise for the son in this right of passage that will take him out of his comfort zone. This can be done for sons of single moms as well by trusted mentors and men in the church.  It’s important that these sons also have mentors to look up to and go to for advice.  There are 4 ways that separate men from women. 1. Physical Strength 2. Authority Figure 3. Men are called to be natural leaders, the head of household 4. Provider and Protector. Thanks for listening to Episode #182, Milestones to Manhood, and for helping Dr. Meg’s parenting revolution reach more than SEVEN MILLION downloads! Episode 179-"Helping Teens Overcome Self-Defeating Thoughts" Guest: Jon Acuff

DR. MEG MEEKER with guests JON ACUFFName something you want to do and then write down your first thoughts… Are they positive and encouraging? Or negative and self-critical? How we speak to and about ourselves is vitally important – not only to ourselves, but also to future generations. Our teenagers are watching us, listening to us – What we do, what we say, what we believe, how we act. A parent’s view of anything, and how we speak about it, can instill either positivity or negativity in our teens. The good news is that we get to choose our thoughts, and our words! We can choose to think and speak positively about ourselves, overcoming self-defeating thoughts, and we can teach our teenagers to do the same.  Don’t miss this encouraging episode, where Jon Acuff discusses: Watching out for absolutes (Asking yourself 3 questions about what you’re telling yourself) Disbelieving lies and embracing truth Being brave enough to be “bad” at something new Performance & Teens: Reinforcing character strengths over performance Individual and Family “Soundtracks” How speaking the truth about yourself will help you speak the truth about others Learning to be the best version of yourself – Don’t tell your teen that they can be anything they want to be.. Kids are smarter than we think and they know that’s not really true. Instead, tell them, “You can be the best You that there is.. Be the very best version of yourself!”  FROM THE PRODUCERThanks for listening to Episode #179, Helping Teens Overcome Self-Defeating Thoughts, and for helping Dr. Meg’s parenting revolution reach more than SEVEN MILLION downloads! Episode 176-"Developing a Strong Faith in a Scary Culture" Guest: Ken Harrison

Ask Christians what they expect to happen to them after they die, and most will say they will go to heaven. And they’ll probably say that they will meet Jesus and hope to hear Him say, “Well done good and faithful servant.” But many believers know they are not living up to God’s calling on their lives. In fact, many might even admit their lives don’t honor God at all—at least Mondays through Saturdays.   In A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World, Ken Harrison masterfully uses his stories as a Los Angeles police officer in one of the deadliest areas of the country to explain and illustrate deep truths from God’s Word. This isn’t your typical inspirational book—it’s a hard-hitting work that packs a lot of truth into an easy-to-read page-turner. Each chapter starts and ends with a gripping story that has a twist, a “rest of the story” at the end of the chapter, and packs intense biblical truth and wisdom in the middle. Are you ready to take the first step towards a more courageous and bold life lived in Jesus? In A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World, find the motivation that you’ve been longing for. FROM THE PRODUCER Thanks for listening to Episode #176, Developing a Strong Faith in a Scary World, and for helping Dr. Meg’s parenting revolution reach more than SEVEN MILLION downloads! MEG MEEKER with guest JESSICA BUCHANANJessica Buchanan had just completed education advisory meetings in southern Somalia, and was in transit to a guest house where she would stay overnight before heading back home the next morning.
