OC049 - Bob and Arlina - Recovery, Money, Resentment, Family, and Parenting in Marriage

The primary purpose of the podcast is to carry the message of hope to those who are suffering from addiction. My guests and I talk about their addiction stories, what happened, what it was like and what a life of sobriety looks like now. Through these conversations, I'm looking to uncover the new ideas, changes in perspective, and the daily habits or routines that lead to healing & long term recovery. Today's quote comes from The Five minute journal. The quote is " To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." -Ralph Waldo Emerson. Isn't that a great quote? It reminds me of what I hear in the rooms, To thine own self be true. I feel like we all experience external pressures to fill the small limited roles society wants us to play. It's up to us to get quiet, listen to own intuition and follow our hearts. So I've been writing in this journal since 4/23/16 after hearing about it from the Tim Ferriss podcast. If you've never heard of the 5 minute journal, their tag line is: The simplest thing you can do to start your day happier. Helps you focus on the positive and become more mindful. If you have a hard time journaling, this is a brilliant tool because it's short and effective. It has two sections, one to fill out in the morning and one for the evening. The morning section has 3 lines for things you are grateful for, than 3 things that would make today great, and a blank space for you to write a positive affirmation. The second section is to be filled out at the end of the day and it has space to list 3 amazing things that happened and space for the final question "How could I have made things better". This is a really simple way to train your brain to focus on the positive and develop a healthy morning routine that can contribute to your emotional sobriety. You can get a copy through the link below: (affiliate link) The Five Minute Journal: A Happier You in 5 Minutes a Day So we decided to do something different with the interview today. I have been getting requests to interview my husband Bob, but I just couldn't wrap my head around how to do that one. So I invited a former guest, and my dear friend Gabriel to do the interview. He suggested he interview us together, so that's what we did! Gabriel did a great job! We all had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it. With love and gratitude, Arlina

OC45 - Rick - Being a Firefighter, Dealing with PTSD, and The Family Afterward

OC45 - Rick Hi Friend, welcome to the ODAAT Chat podcast! If you are new here, My name is Arlina and I'll be your host. This is a podcast where my guests and I talk about how to recovery from alcoholism and many forms of addiction. Today's episode is probably one of the most important I have published to date. Through this conversation with my friend and fellow podcaster Rick, I learned about the increasing rate of alcoholism and suicide rate of first responders. The tragedy and horror they see on a daily basis and the culture of holding everything in, can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms, depression and in extreme cases, alcoholism and suicide. It was very important to me get Rick's story out. His courage in coming forward and telling the truth of the struggles he faced will be the catalyst for others to reach out for help. As a society, we need to help those who are there for us in our worst moments of crisis. It's my hope that Rick's message will reach another standing at the abyss, to know they are not alone. Please be advised that some of the content may be difficult to hear. And with that, It's my great honor to share this conversation, with Rick.

OC43 Neil 2.0 Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Recovery, Sobriety, Spirituality Welcome to the ODAAT Chat podcast, my name is Arlina and I'll be your host. Before I jump into the episode overview, there are some kick ass recovery resources I wanted to share with you. On the podcast website, you will find a list of books that I reference in this and previous episodes. You can find it at odaatchat.com and odaat is spelled o d a a t. If you like the audible versions of these books, you can get your first book free when you sign up for an Audible subscription through the link on the homepage. So that's it for the books, but...there is also a list of recovery podcasts similar to this one that you will love. My personal feeling is that we are stronger together so I'm happy to share some of the best recovery podcasts like The Bubble Hour hosted by my friend Jean McCarthy, The Shair Podcast hosted by the dynamic Omar Pinto, and Light Hustler by the superfabulous Anna David. Lastly, check out "Sober Nation" which has tons of articles, a network of recovery podcasts that I will hopefully be a part of and an online community. Links will be listed in the episode show notes as well as the website. So these are some the resources I use in my daily life that help me, and I hope they help you too. Today's episode is actually part 2 with my super smart and interesting friend Neil. I had too much to talk to him about to fit it all on one episode, so he came back! As it turns out, the conversation kinds turns into a bit of a therapy session for me, but it presented an opportunity for Neil to share some meaningful insights. So your welcome lol. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, so without further delay, please enjoy this encore episode, with Neil. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bubblehour http://theshairpodcast.com/ http://lighthustler.com/ https://sobernation.com/ "The alternative 12 steps, a secular guide to recovery"
