※ A Desk Full Of Cards [Daily Guinness]
As a musician, writer, artist, and human, I’ve realized... the unfortunate temptation, when seeing someone who’s good at something you’re not, is the temptation to assume it comes “naturally” to them.
As I was going through my Papa’s desk a couple of weeks ago, I found a stack of letters, never sent, never opened. That changed the way I’ll prioritize relationships and music for the rest of my life.

⚓︎ ”CONGRATS! YOU’RE NOW MORE HUMAN.” (on death and grief)
My grandfather passed away a couple of weeks ago.
Papa and I were extremely close so, I just haven’t had it in me to record a podcast or be on social-media up till now. (Thanks to everyone who reached out to me to check in!)
Between this and Sarah’s mom passing recently, the two of us have become what I’ve been referring to as, “students of grief” and one thing I’ve realized is, when confronted with something like this in life, it’s easy to view it as a glitch in the Matrix, an affront to our humanity. But as painful as it may be… the opposite is actually true.
Before I move on with the podcast and everyday life, I asked Sarah to sit down to talk about it on the podcast.

※ Should You Record and Watch Yourself Perform? [Daily Guinness]
For years, as a musician and performance artist, I thought the answer was, “Of course! It can only make you better.” Now… I’ve realized the answer isn’t so cut and dry…

※ Looking At It Like A Taproom [Daily Guinness]
I had a conversation recently with a buddy about branding and his upcoming social-media game-plan. Later that night, I found myself at a bar with Sarah complaining about how many IPAs were on tap, and suddenly… I realized they were connected.

I once heard a cinematographer talk about what separates professional actors from everyone else and what he said changed the way I’ll approach sessions and gigs for the rest of my life.

※ Reframing Energy [Daily Guinness]
File Under: Auditions, Creative Process, Live Performance
For years, I had no idea what my true job was as a musician. Whether it was an audition or a rehearsal at a gig I already landed, I approached it all the same… try and figure out what the artist liked, and do whatever I could to impress them. That’s how you keep getting work, no? This is what I wish someone would have told me fifteen years ago.
