How Hard Should I Swing?
For years, the consensus advice for golfers was to swing smoothly. We've all admired the superb players who seem to exert no effort at all. But in more recent years, we've learned the value of distance, and increasingly we've seen swings (even at the highest levels of golf) in which golfers swing so hard that they finish off-balance, recoiling the club back around. So what are we supposed to be doing? In this episode, Mark, Lou, and Greg give their advice for how hard we should be swinging if we want to shoot our best scores.Where to find us:Mark Crossfield's weekly newsletter: https://www.crossfieldgolf.com/subscribeMark Crossfield on Twitter: https://twitter.com/4golfonlineMark Crossfield on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/4golfonlineLou Stagner's weekly newsletter: https://newsletter.loustagnergolf.com/subscribeLou Stagner on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LouStagnerGreg Chalmers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GregChalmersPGAThe Hack It Out Golf Podcast on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HackItOutGolf Learn more about your ad choices. Getting Status on the New PGA Tour
The PGA Tour continues to rebuild its membership structure on the fly, changing up who qualifies for a card and what events different players can get in. In this season, that has created a crunch for those who earned their cards through Q School, many of whom are struggling to get any starts on Tour so far. In this episode, Greg and Mark and Lou talk about these changes, what they mean for players on Tour, and how the Tour is challenged to both reward its stars while providing avenues for up and coming players to gain status.Where to find us:Mark Crossfield's weekly newsletter: https://www.crossfieldgolf.com/subscribeMark Crossfield on Twitter: https://twitter.com/4golfonlineMark Crossfield on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/4golfonlineLou Stagner's weekly newsletter: https://newsletter.loustagnergolf.com/subscribeLou Stagner on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LouStagnerGreg Chalmers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GregChalmersPGAThe Hack It Out Golf Podcast on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HackItOutGolf Learn more about your ad choices. Saturday Morning Golf Stat - 10-15 Indexes, Best and Worst Rounds
Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. There are fewer attributes more requested by amateur golfers than consistency. What does that mean? In this episode, Lou quizzes Mark and Greg about the range of scores typical of a 10–15 index golfer, along with their "outlier" rounds, in which they score 5 shots better or worse than average. In addition to useful facts that help you have better expectations about your own game, you'll likely feel better about your understanding of how averages work after listening to this podcast. Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap.Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee!Data is sourced from Arccos Golf. Waste Management and Golf Fan Behavior
With the benefit of a few days past the event to cool down, Greg, Mark, and Lou take up the topic of the increasingly unruly fan behavior at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Was a line crossed? Saturday Morning Golf Stat - Scratch vs 15 Index, PW in the Fairway
Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. When comparing golfers of different skill levels, the Saturday Morning Stat often asks about their differing performance from the same yardage. But in general, golfers with lower handicaps also hit the ball further which each club than higher handicap golfers, and physics dictates that it is easier to hit a PW straighter than a 7i. So in this episode, Lou asks Greg and Mark to guess the percent of greens hit by scratch and 15-index golfers from the fairway with their pitching wedges. Will the numbers even out, or will the lower-index player still outperform the high-handicapper?Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap.Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee!Data is sourced from Arccos Golf. Gimmes and Mulligans
"That's good." Ah, but is it? In this episode, Greg, Lou, and Mark discuss what turns out to be a vast chasm of golf culture: whether gimmes and mulligans are a part of golf. The guys talk about the ways in which gimmes were treated in their early years in golf and how they work in social games—and when people take them for their handicap rounds.Where to find us:Mark Crossfield's weekly newsletter: https://www.crossfieldgolf.com/subscribeMark Crossfield on Twitter: https://twitter.com/4golfonlineMark Crossfield on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/4golfonlineLou Stagner's weekly newsletter: https://newsletter.loustagnergolf.com/subscribeLou Stagner on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LouStagnerGreg Chalmers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GregChalmersPGAThe Hack It Out Golf Podcast on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HackItOutGolf Learn more about your ad choices. Greg's Lesson on Catalyst Force Plates
During the PGA Show, Greg took the opportunity to have a lesson with Dr. Scott Lynn using the Catalyst Force Plates. Mark was there for the lesson as well. In this episode, they review what Greg learned about how he uses pressure in the golf swing, and speculate how the lesson would have gone if Lou had been on the plates. For all of us, learning how we interact with the ground can help us make better, more efficient swings and play better golf.Where to find us:Mark Crossfield's weekly newsletter: https://www.crossfieldgolf.com/subscribeMark Crossfield on Twitter: https://twitter.com/4golfonlineMark Crossfield on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/4golfonlineLou Stagner's weekly newsletter: https://newsletter.loustagnergolf.com/subscribeLou Stagner on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LouStagnerGreg Chalmers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GregChalmersPGAThe Hack It Out Golf Podcast on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HackItOutGolf Learn more about your ad choices.
