#78 – Throwback To Our First Episode: Attitude Is Everything | Rich Stone
Attitude and effort.
These are two of the only things that we can control and are key factors to every single successful person in the world.
Whether it’s through sports, sales, or life, Rich Stone has focused on these two areas - and it’s served him well.
Rich brings with him 10+ years of technology sales and was named Sales Rep of the Year at his company in 2014. He has 15+ years in competitive athletics and played football at St. Anselm College. He has contributed blogs and podcasts to Salesforce Quotable and is seen as a thought leader in social selling. Currently, he is a husband, father of two, and VP Sales at TechTarget.
All of those accomplishments - and any on the horizon - are due to the attitude and effort he puts in to his day-to-day tasks.
In this episode, we talk about how sports and competition as a kid help you later in life, his mantra of “Attitude is everything” and tactical sales advice that anyone can apply today.

#77 – How To Build A Successful Company Through Conscious Leadership | Godard Abel
Mark Cuban is famous for saying “In business, you only need to be right once.”
Godard Abel doesn’t believe in that. He’s already been right twice and is working on his third project now.
In 2013 Abel sold his software company, BigMachines to Oracle for $400M.
Then in late 2015 he sold his next company, SteelBrick to Salesforce.com for $360M.
But Abel isn’t an overnight success story. BigMachines took nearly a dozen years to build and Abel told me that they missed their sales numbers every year for the first seven years. With only $1.5M left in the bank, he and his team decided to continue onward and the rest is history.
Abel mentioned that a major piece of his success has come as a result of mindfulness. He follows Jim Dethmer’s Concious Leadership style, he reads books from Eckhart Tolle, and meditates using Headspace every day.
His focus on health and wellness has allowed him to think more clearly and become a more successful leader.
And if being right twice is great, a third time would be icing on the cake. That’s what Abel is working on right now with his team at G2 Crowd.

#76 – Be A Shark, Do Your Job | Monday Motivation From Marcus Aurelius
"Do sharks complain about Monday? No. They’re up early, biting stuff, chasing shit, being scary - remind everyone they’re a fucking shark."
We’ve all had that feeling: you wake up to your early morning alarm and feel groggy.
“Five more minutes,” you tell yourself, when in reality that five minutes can quickly turn into much more.
We knew exactly what we were doing when we set the alarm the night before but allow our tired mind to negotiate with us.
This feeling has been going on since the beginning of time. Marcus Aurelius wrote a great passage in his book, Meditations, about this as early as the year 160 A.D.:
“At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: ‘I have to go to work as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for… Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?’
But it’s nicer here… So you were born to feel nice? Instead of doing things and experiencing them? Don’t you see the plants, the birds, the ants and spiders and bees going about their individual tasks, putting the world in order, as best they can?
People who love what they do wear themselves down doing it, they even forget to wash or eat. Do you have less respect for your own nature than the engraver does for engraving, the dancer for the dance, the miser for money or the social climber for status?
Is helping others less valuable to you? Not worth your effort?”
The message is simple, clear and reminds me of Bill Belichick: “Do your job” - because that’s what we were made to do.
Whether you’re a CEO, intern, salesperson or grocery store cashier - your job is important. And if you do it well, you can help make the world a better place.
Whatever you’re looking for - more money, a promotion, a new job, a fancy car - it’s on the other side of doing today’s job well. At the very least, it requires getting out of that warm comfy bed.

#74 – When Should A Millennial Take The Leap Into Entrepreneurship | Nicolas Cole
When Nicolas Cole graduated college in 2013, he had a decision to make: work at a large ad agency with cushy benefits and a higher salary or take a pay cut to work at a smaller firm in order to learn about building a start-up from the Founder.
He chose the latter, delaying gratification in search of a larger long-term goal.
He spent the next four years on the grind: working at the agency during the day and writing every night.
He vowed to write every single day for a year.
Yes, this means weekends. Yes, this means Christmas. Yes, this especially means days when he “wasn’t feeling it.”.
In fact, one of his most viral blogs came on a day that he almost decided to break his pledge to himself.
Four years later, he was getting enough inbound requests for help that it made sense to make the leap. He took his learnings and savings from that small ad agency to create Digital Press, a content marketing agency that helps businesses and brands become thought leaders in their industry.
Looking back, this isn’t a surprising move for Cole. He’s been training for moments like these his entire life.
As a teenager, he entered the gaming world. Within four years, he was one of the top World of Warcraft players in North America.
Years later, he went through another transformation as he entered the bodybuilding world. Four years of relentless work and strict dieting, he transformed his body and life.
His method to success lies within consistent, disciplined work. Whether it’s writing, lifting weights or playing WoW, he has taken action every single day to master his craft.
As he would say: “You can’t steer a stationary ship”.
Cole is new to the entrepreneurial world but certainly has the framework in place to be successful.
Nothing in life is guaranteed - but don’t be surprised if you see his name in headlines four years from.

#73 – What My 80-Year-Old Grandfather Thinks About Entrepreneurship, Family Business & Regrets
My Grandpa is a cool dude.
One day after graduating college, he married my grandma and joined the Navy. They were married for 50 years until she passed away.
He rose through the corporate ladder, took over a business in 1983 as the CEO and is still Chairman of the Board today.
He ran at least a half marathon every year until he was in his sixties. He still run, walks or golfs just about every single day.
A few months ago he invited our family down to South Carolina to celebrate his 80th birthday. Like most birthdays, there was a delicious cake involved.
But when we brought the cake out, it didn’t say “Happy 80th Birthday Grandpa”.
It said “Be Bold And Dream”.
He wrote the message on that cake to his three children, 8 grandchildren and maybe even himself.
I wanted to ask him about that cake. I wanted to ask him what it was like to marry someone the day after you graduated college. I wanted to ask him about running a family business with my dad, uncle and aunt. I wanted to ask him all about his 80 years on this Earth, and what he has planned for the rest of his life.
So I did.
We set up a great view on his porch (you’ll have to excuse some gusts of wind and birds chirping) and talked.
I learned a lot from him and hope you will too.
