#89 – Develop A “Whatever It Takes” Mindset | Gabe Larsen

"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work." - Colin Powell Gary Vaynerchuk hustles from 7 pm to 2 am.  Eric Thomas says you need to want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe.  It's clear that in order to reach high goals, you need massive action. From closing a $10M deal to living in Saudi Arabia to being one of the top sales influencers in the world, Gabe Larsen knows a thing or two about hard work.  In fact, he credits much of his success to the work he puts in from 10 pm to 1 am every day. “I’m a little later in my career, I have three kids. (…) I’m the guy who, as soon as 10 p.m. comes around, I’m back to work. One of my most productive times is about 10 to 1 a.m., and that’s where I’m going to double-down. I’m going to beat everybody because I’m going to outwork them.” In this episode, I pull out my favorite clip from our interview with Gabe, where he talks about his crazy work ethic and how to develop a "whatever it takes" attitude to succeed. #88 – How To Work With Your Significant Other | Jason Feifer, Jennifer Miller

Entrepreneurship between couples and families is an interesting concept. The pros: you have a strong relationship, know each other well and likely have similar values. The cons: it can be very difficult to separate business from pleasure. Jason Feifer and Jennifer Miller know about this concept, as they’ve spent the last two years writing and producing their new novel “Mr. Nice Guy”. I sat down with them (in their home!) to talk about the book, and how to make it work as a marriage and business partnership. Jason Feifer is editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur magazine, and host of two podcasts: Pessimists Archive (iTunes, site), about the history of unfounded fears of innovation, and Problem Solvers (iTunes, site), about how entrepreneurs solve unexpected problems in their business.  He also co-wrote the new novel, “Mr. Nice Guy”. Jennifer Miller is the author of four books, most recently “Mr. Nice Guy.” Her journalism appears in the New York Times, Washington Post Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, Entrepreneur, Fast Company and more. She also teaches at Columbia University. #87 – Why You Should Put One Big Thing On The Calendar Each Year | Spartan World Champsionships

"My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable, challenges and trying to rise above them." - Richard Branson In this episode, I talk about why you should put one big thing on the calendar each year. Something challenging. Something scary. Something that radically expands your sense of what’s possible. That's what I did this year by taking on the Spartan Race World Championships in Lake Tahoe a few weeks ago. I talk about my experience for the race, what I learned and what I'll be up to next year. #86 – Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It: Tips From A Former FBI Agent | Chris Voss

Negotiation is such an important skill to master. Whether it’s your job salary, a business deal you’re working on or just trying to get an extra 10% off your next shoe purchase, everything in life is a negotiation. There’s likely nobody that knows more about negotiation than Chris Voss. Prior to 2008, Chris was the lead international kidnapping negotiator for the FBI. He dealt with over 150 kidnappings in his 24-year FBI career. In other words: when a bad guy captured an American, Chris was the first person called to safely handle the situation. He is also a recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the FBI Agents Association Award for Distinguished and Exemplary Service. Now, Chris runs the Black Swan Consulting Group and teaches negotiation at USC & Georgetown University. Chris wrote the bestselling book: “Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It”. This was recommended to me by a ton of people and is a must-read for anyone looking to master their negotiation skills. In this episode, we talk about his negotiation process with terrorists, how a business or salesperson can use these tactics and tips for your next salary negotiation. “The most dangerous negotiation is the one you don’t know you’re in.” Listen Here: iTunes Google Play Stitcher Connect with Chris: Site Never Split The Difference Instagram Twitter Facebook Sign up for the weekly Millennial Momentum Newsletter. #84 – An End To Upside Down Thinking | Mark Gober

This is a unique conversation for Millennial Momentum. I had never really thought much about consciousness and what it means for my life. My conversation with Mark Gober flipped that. In this conversation, we talk about his theory of consciousness and how it can affect our happiness and way we live our lives everyday. Mark Gober is an author whose worldview was turned upside down in late 2016 when he learned of phenomena that threaten the prevailing view in science that consciousness comes from the brain. After researching extensively for nearly a year, he became convinced that a paradigm shift was in order: biology does not produce consciousness; rather, consciousness produces biology. In An End to Upside Down Thinking, Mark Gober traces his journey – he explores compelling scientific evidence from a diverse set of disciplines, ranging from psychic phenomena, to near-death experiences, to quantum physics and beyond. With cutting-edge thinkers like two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Ervin Laszlo, Pixar founder and two-time Academy Award winner Loren Carpenter, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences Dr. Dean Radin, University of Virginia professor Dr. Ed Kelly, and New York Times bestselling author Larry Dossey, MD supporting this thesis, this book will rock the scientific community and mainstream generalists interested in understanding the true nature of reality. #82 – Mix Your Work And Your Play | Monday Motivation From Patagonia Founder, Yvon Chouinard

"A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both." -L.P. Jacks In this episode, I dive into how to ENJOY your work so much that it feels like play.  Inspired by reading "Let My People Go Surfing" by Patagonia Founder, Yvon Chouinard. #81 – How To Overcome Fear, Take Ownership and Become A Better Man | Ryan Michler

“Do not let fear dictate the way you live life.” - Ryan Michler In 2007, Ryan Michler’s life had hit a snag. He had a failing business, had recently separated from his wife and his life seemed off track. As an Iraq Combat Veteran that never grew up with a father figure, Ryan had plenty of excuses he could make for why life had become so difficult. Ryan had every excuse to make - and chose to avoid them. Instead, he looked inside. He took ownership for the failure of his marriage and failing business and became more disciplined and accountable in all areas of his life. Over time, his marriage, his business and his life began to improve. As he told his story, he realized that other men had the same struggles around being a father, husband, employee and a “true man”. Thus, he started “Order of Man”, a community and resource for men to become better. In this interview, Ryan and I talked about his journey, how to find success and tips for overcoming fear. Enjoy! #80 – Develop A Standard of Performance | Monday Motivation From Bill Walsh

When Bill Walsh joined the 49ers organization, they were the worst team in football. In under three years, he turned them into Super Bowl Champions and is recognized as one of the greatest coaches of all time. Walsh credits much of his success to the "Standard of Performance" that he set up through himself and the organization. I review his list and why it's so important to have your own philosophy if you want to be successful. -Exhibit a ferocious and intelligently applied work ethic directed at continual improvement -Demonstrate respect for each person in the organization and the work he or she does -Be deeply committed to learning and teaching -Be fair -Demonstrate character -Honor the direct connection between details and improvement, and relentlessly seek the latter -Show self-control - especially when it counts most - under pressure -Demonstrate and prize loyalty -Use positive language and have a positive attitude -Take pride in my effort as an entity separate from the result of that effort -Be willing to go the extra distance for the organization -Deal appropriately with victory and defeat, adulation and humiliation -Promote internal communication that is both open and substantive (especially under stress) -Seek poise in myself and those I lead -Put the team’s welfare and priorities ahead of my own -Maintain an ongoing level of concentration and focus that is abnormally high -Make sacrifice and commitment the organization’s framework Listen Here: iTunes Google Play Stitcher Sign up for the weekly Millennial Momentum Newsletter.
