#99 – Throwback to The Wolf of Wall St. | Jordan Belfort

This man needs to introduction but we'll give him one anyways.  He is one of the most polarizing figures in the history of Finance and Sales.  His story goes from rags to riches to rags back to riches again.  Leonardo DiCaprio played him in the movie about his life for God's sakes.  He's the one, the only, Wolf of Wall St, Jordan Belfort.  About a year ago, Ryan and I interviewed Jordan on a cold Saturday in December.  We talked about what he's learned about entrepreneurship, how to be a great salesperson and what it was like to be him in 1993.  (Warning: the last ~15 minutes get a bit graphic on drugs, sex and alcohol related to his life).  You can check out my full write-up here on our conversation.  Please enjoy Mr. Jordan Belfort.  Sign up for the weekly Millennial Momentum Newsletter. #98 – Investing, Minimalism & Overriding Fear of Failure | Kevin Rose, Entrepreneur/Investor

Kevin Rose is a builder, investor, meditator and one of the most interesting people I've had the chance to interview.  You may have seen Kevin around.  He has been featured on the cover of Inc. Magazine, BusinessWeek, and RedHerring.  Kevin was named a "Top 25 Angel Investors" by Bloomberg, "Top 25 Web Celebrities" by Forbes, "Top 35 Innovators" by MIT, and "Top 25 Most Influential People on the Web" by Time and BusinessWeek magazines. Today, Kevin is a venture capitalist at True Ventures, CEO of Oak Meditation and host of the Kevin Rose Show.   My favorite thing about Kevin is the way he "plays through life."  He tries things that peak his interest.  He fails often.  He tinkers with lifestyle changes to find out what works best for him and his family.  In this episode, we talk about a whole range of topics, from Tony Robbins to investing tips to overriding fear of failure to living life as a minimalist.  Trust me, you do NOT want to miss this episode.   Listen Here: iTunes Google Play Stitcher Connect with Kevin: Site  Twitter Instagram Facebook   Sign up for the weekly Millennial Momentum Newsletter. #97 – Think Big, Compete With Yourself and Push Past Your Limits | Endurance Racer Courtney Dauwalter

If you’re reading this, you likely set goals.  You’re ambitious, driven and think towards the future.  But do you think big enough? No, seriously.  How BIG do you think? I recently talked with Courtney Dauwalter about this topic on the Millennial Momentum podcast.   Courtney is an elite ultra-endurance runner.  Last year, she won the Moab 240, which is a 238-mile foot race through the Moab Desert in Utah.  Not only did she win - she absolutely dominated. She finished the race in 58 hours, beating the second place competitor (male or female) by over 10 hours. Here are three lessons I learned from Courtney: Think Big Despite Courtney taking the ultra-endurance world by storm, she says she is still looking to improve and find ways to shave minutes off of her times.   “I still don’t think anyone of us has reached our full potential yet.” Compete With Yourself We asked Courtney about how she approaches competition.  Though she sees other runners as competitors, she is most competitive with herself - always pushing to do better than her previous records.   When you’re at the top of the hill, it’s vital to keep setting the bar higher for yourself. Have Fun Despite being a fierce competitor, Courtney has fun.  She has an extremely positive attitude, which helps her stay relaxed enough to compete at the highest levels.   Whatever you’re working on, find ways to stay positive and have fun through any of the peaks and valleys that life throws at you.     Listen Here: iTunes Google Play Stitcher Connect with Courtney: Facebook Instagram Twitter Sign up for the weekly Millennial Momentum Newsletter. Anthony Iannarino is an international speaker, bestselling author, sales leader, and entrepreneur.  He also hosts the In The Arena podcast, The Sales Blog.  His most recent book, Eat Their Lunch, talks about how to win customers away from the competition. This episode is really a tale of two stories.  The first 30 minutes is a deep dive into Anthony's new book and the tactics needed for today's sales reps to win in a competitive environment.  The second half is one of my favorite topics - the mindset needed to be successful.  This applies to sales, business, and any other area of life you can think of. #93 – Want To Be Great? Don’t Talk About It, Be About It | PJ Nestler

In this episode, I talk with human performance specialist PJ Nestler.  Over the past 10 years, PJ has trained dozens of professional athletes, including several Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champions and Top 10 ranked UFC fighters.  PJ is also the Director of Performance at XPT Life, founded by Laird Hamilton and Gabby Reece. PJ lives by a mantra: “Don’t talk about it, be about it.”  Makes sense and sounds pretty badass, but what does it even mean?   It’s not just a saying, it’s the way he lives his life.  If he makes a commitment, he keeps it. If he sets a goal, he figures out a way to do it.  If he says he’ll be somewhere - even if he doesn’t want to go - he’ll be there. Not only has this mantra helped PJ, but he thinks it’s a massive differentiator for anyone who wants to be great.  Most athletes come to him with the goal of being the best in the world but “9/10 people are lying to themselves.” They don’t put in the obsessive, disciplined work to get there.  They don’t focus on all of the small things. Put simply, they may talk about it but they aren’t being about it. If you’re early in your career and struggling, if you have ambitious dreams you’re chasing, give this one a listen.  And if you like what you hear, tell a friend and help us to share the message. #91 – The Four Agreements That Can Change Your Life | Book Review

In The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering.  The book has been touted as a helpful spiritual resource to Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and even Tom Brady.  Brady says the lessons in the book have been a “mantra for his life.”  If it’s good enough for Tom, it’s good enough for me. Ruiz claims that we all have made thousands of “agreements” with ourselves and with others: what you are, what you believe, what you think you can and can’t do, what is possible and impossible.  Many of these agreements have been hardwired into our brains from family, friends and the media since we were young. Ruiz says that if you can adopt these four agreements, “they will create enough personal power for you to change the entire system of your old agreements.”   So, what are the four agreements that can change our life? Be impeccable with your word Don't take anything personally Don't make assumptions Always do your best For more, read it here. #90 – How Positive Energy Can Produce Results | Jake DeCicco, Kitu Super Coffee

“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen” - Michael Jordan Jordan DeCicco called his older brother, Jake, to tell him the news. “I just called mom.  I’m dropping out of school to pursue the business.” Jake couldn’t believe it: his brother was leaving a full scholarship behind to start a coffee company.  In his head, he thought his brother was crazy. But his response surprised Jordan, and even himself: “I’m in”.   Not long afterward, the oldest of the three brothers, Jim, decided to leave his high-paying job on Wall St. to join the business.   In a matter of days, this went from “cool idea” to being all in.  That escalated quickly. But let’s take it back. As a collegiate student-athlete, Jordan DeCicco was tired.  On his way to early morning basketball practices, he found himself in front of convenience store refrigerators, discontent with the lineup of their energy drinks and bottled coffee loaded with sugar.  He knew there had to be a better way. He decided to scratch his own itch and turned to a blender in his dorm room, mixing together a combination of coffee, healthy fats, protein and zero sugar. Before long, his teammates, coaches, classmates and professors were all drinking it.  Jordan knew he was onto something. Still full-time students, Jordan and Jake decided to spend the summer seeing if this business had potential.  Rather than think about it, they took action. They went into Whole Foods, bought an Honest Tea and brought it back to their dorm room.  They replaced the label with one that they created and filled the bottle with their “super coffee”. Later that day, they returned to the same Whole Foods with this bottle, sold it to the manager and closed a deal with Whole Foods. That led to the nerve-wracking call to mom.  Leaving aside two full-ride scholarships and a high-paying job on Wall St., the three DeCicco brothers were in business.   They worked from 7 pm to 5 am in a distribution plant, spending the rest of their day delivering and selling the product. They beat the 40,000 to 1 odds (!) of getting on Shark Tank and made national headlines for their business. They even landed a $5M investment from an impromptu meeting with WeWork Founder Adam Neumann.   The lesson?   Luck doesn’t find you on your couch watching Netflix.  It finds you when you’re out there hustling, working towards your dreams. Their message to the world? If you change your energy, you can change the world.  I wrote about the importance of positive energy here following my Tony Robbins seminar.   It’s simple: you will see a reflection of what you put into the world.   So make the choice.  Put out positive, playful, hardworking energy.  And luck just might find you and give you the nudge you need along the way.
