7. Sermon on the Mount : Be perfect? Matthew 5:48-6:9, 16-18

The seventh of a series on the Sermon on the Mount. The call to perfection in Matthew 5:48-6:9 and 6:16-18 is often taught as impossible, thus giving licence to Christians to ignore and even despise the Way of Jesus as irrelevant to their gleeful embrace of power, violence and nationalism. We take a closer look...Thanks to Jon and the Dig Deeper team of St Luke's Church for allowing us to release these recordings!Has anything we make been interesting, useful or fruitful for you? Stephanie Drury, shadowbanned by theobros

Stephanie Drury is the founder of stuffchristianculturelikes, the go-to site for anyone who if they did not laugh would rage. Underneath the wicked humour and sharp insight is the deeper work of binding up the broken hearted and setting the captives free, especially women harmed by evangelical culture. Stephanie joins the Tent to talk about being too vulgar for Christianity Today, fighting with theobros and her role in the "fall" part of the rise and fall of Mark Driscoll's Mars Hill.Follow Stephanie and SCCL on Twitter. 6. Sermon on the Mount : Turning the Other Cheek and Loving Our Enemies. Matthew 5:38-48

The sixth of a series on the Sermon on the Mount. From Matthew 5:38-48, Stephen discusses how turning the other cheek is not "doing nothing," but is instead a way of resisting violence and giving the violent a new way to see reality. The way of Jesus does not allow us to take a human life to solve a problem, no matter how logical that solution may seem. Thanks to Jon and the Dig Deeper team of St Luke's Church for allowing us to release these recordings!Has anything we make been interesting, useful or fruitful for you? Her upcoming book is Orphaned Believers. You can find out more about Sara's writing and her own podcast HERE.Has anything we make been interesting, useful or fruitful for you? 5. Sermon on the Mount : Swearing Oaths, Telling Truths, Killing Kids and Flying Flags. Matthew 5:33-37

The fifth of a series on the Sermon on the Mount. Should followers of Jesus swear oaths and pledges of allegiance? What if it is to the Queen or to the bishop as an act of obedience? Stephen weighs in on what Jesus has to say on the matter as we focus on Matthew 5:33-37.Thanks to Jon and the Dig Deeper team of St Luke's Church for allowing us to release these recordings!Has anything we make been interesting, useful or fruitful for you? 4. Sermon on the Mount : Lust, Adultery, and Divorce Matthew 5:27-32

The fourth of a series on the Sermon on the Mount. In this episode we focus on Matthew 5:27-32 and Jesus's teachings on lust and adultery. In this passage we see that the heart of Jesus's message was a concern about broken relationships, that sin is always a communal event, and that seemingly harsh teachings like this one were about protecting our own souls as well as the vulnerable among us.Thanks to Jon and the Dig Deeper team of St Luke's Church for allowing us to release these recordings!Has anything we make been interesting, useful or fruitful for you?
