Here is Part 08 of “Unmasked”—my series on the Ten Commandments. This week I covered commandment 7: “You shall not commit adultery.” This commandment is meant to expose our unfaithfulness—the fact that we are all adulterers. God has faithfully wedded himself to us and we can’t stop sleeping around. Everytime we sin in thought, word, or deed, we are cheating on God. That’s the bad news. The good news is that God’s love for us  is not dependent on our faithfulness to him, but Jesus’ faithfulness for us. I hope this message helps you come to deeper terms with the fact that we all need God’s grace.

Here is Part 07 of “Unmasked”—my series on the Ten Commandments. This week I covered commandment six: “You shall not murder.” It’s easy for us to think that we aren’t guilty of breaking this commandment until we look at what Jesus said about it in Matthew 5:21-22. The bottoms line: we are all murderers. But, the good news is that Jesus was killed to pardon killers like you and me.  “By weakness and defeat, He won the victors crown; trod all His foes beneath His feet, by being trodden down.”

Here is Part 06 of my series on the Ten Commandments—“Unmasked.” In this sermon, I cover the 5th commandment: “Honor your father and your mother...” And the point that I drive home is that this commandment has little to do with whether our parents—or anyone else for that matter—is deserving of honor. This commandment is intended to expose OUR propensity to honor ourselves. In other words, the command to give honor is meant to unmask the fact that we are all addicted to getting honor. Here is part 5 of my series on the Ten Commandments entitled “Unmasked.” I cover the fourth commandment in this sermon: “Remember the sabbath and keep it holy.” Like all the other commandments, this one exposes us—it unmasks the workaholic in all of us. However much we may complain about how overbooked our schedules are, exhaustion has become a symbol of righteousness. Because our identity is wrongly attached to our productivity, we wear busyness as a badge of honor. So much so that there is a level of shame attached to rest—to take a break is unrighteous.
