Ryan Shearman // Co-Founder of Aether Diamonds
In episode 91 of the Disruptors for GOOD podcast, I speak with Ryan Shearman, co-founder of Aether Diamonds on capturing harmful CO2 from the atmosphere to create the world's first carbon-negative diamonds, alchemized from air.Ryan Shearman is a serial entrepreneur who has spent the past decade innovating across a range of consumer and B2B verticals. In addition to his role as an operator, he advises and invests in high growth tech startups. He has made it his life's work to combat global climate change through the development and commercialization of environmentally advantaged manufacturing technologies. In 2018, Ryan co-founded Aether, a public benefit corporation that extracts harmful CO2 from the atmosphere and transforms it into valuable raw materials and consumer products. They unveiled the world's first and only carbon-negative diamonds made 100% from air in December 2020. The company aims to extract 100 million tonnes of CO2 from the air over the next ten years. How are carbon-negative diamonds created?Atmospheric collectors pull carbon dioxide air pollution straight out of the sky. As the air is drawn in, the CO2 is captured in a special filter. The companies first-of-its-kind diamond alchemization process is set into beautiful motion. For every 1 carat diamond, they remove 20 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. The captured CO2 is then synthesized into a usable hydrocarbon raw material perfect for growing diamonds. All other lab-grown diamonds use carbon that is sourced from fossil fuels through oil drilling and fracking. They are proud to be the world’s first diamond to use carbon from a source that isn’t from the earth. The hydrocarbon raw materials are placed into powerful reactors that create the optimal environment for growing a diamond. The diamonds grow one ambitious atom at a time, as the carbon perfectly aligns into crystalline form. All the energy used to power the growth of our creations is from clean, sustainable sources. The growing process continues for 3-4 weeks until the exact moment when it’s reached peak perfection. The rough diamonds are then sent to our expert craftspeople to cut, polish, and set them into jewelry by hand.Listen to more Causeartist podcasts here.Check out:ImpactInvestor.io - Discover impact investors from around the world.Podcast Made with TransistorPodcast cover design Made with CanvaBuild amazing web platforms with Webflow

Paul Shapiro // CEO of The Better Meat Co.
In episode 88 of the Disruptors for GOOD podcast, I speak with Paul Shapiro, CEO of The Better Meat Co, on the future of food sustainability through technology and cellular agriculture.Paul Shapiro is the author of the national bestseller Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World (published by Simon & Schuster's Gallery Books in 2018). He's also the CEO of The Better Meat Co., a four-time TEDx speaker, the host of the Business for Good Podcast, and a long-time leader in food sustainability. He's been interviewed by hundreds of news outlets from CNN to StarTalk Radio with Neil deGrasse Tyson as an authority on food and agriculture sustainability. He’s also published hundreds of articles in publications ranging from daily newspapers like the Washington Post to pop-sci publications like Scientific American to magazines like FORTUNE to academic journals.Demand for meat is going up, both in the U.S. and globally, posing strains on our ability to feed the planet sustainably. As producing animal protein requires so many more resources than plant protein, blending plants into the meat most consumers enjoy is a great way to reduce the meat products’ footprint. At the same time, most Americans say they plan to maintain or increase their meat consumption in the next year. And even under the most boldest predictions, by 2029, animal meat will still comprise 90 percent of the meat market. That’s where blending comes in as a key supplemental strategy to improve food sustainability and public health. Recent consumer research by the meat and grocery industry suggests interest in meat products enhanced with plant protein is on the rise.Just as we need clean energy to compete with fossil fuels, clean meat is poised to become a competitor of factory farms. Clean meat isn’t an alternative to meat; it’s real, actual meat grown (or brewed!) from animal cells, as well as other clean animal products that ditch animal cells altogether and are simply built from the molecule up.This week Causeartist and the Disruptors for GOOD podcast is sponsored by Moving Worlds:The MovingWorlds Institute Global Fellowship program is for professionals looking to find more purpose in their work and make a positive impact with their careers. Whether you’re searching for a more meaningful job, interested in starting your own social enterprise, or currently at a career crossroads, the Global Fellowship program provides the tools, hands-on experience, and network needed to achieve your goals. The virtual programming is customizable for your unique goals and lifestyle, and is easily combined with a full-time job. Tim Hollinger // Co-founder of Bathing Culture
In episode 86 of the Disruptors for GOOD podcast, I speak with Tim Hollinger, co-founder of Bathing Culture on using No New Plastic to create their line of natural and sustainable bathing products.Tim Hollinger first began working at an NPR affiliate radio station in Upstate New York, before launching into a long career as a serial entrepreneur in the health and lifestyle space. With many highs and lows along the way, these business ideas included a healthy lunchables startup, an urban gardening website, and an aquaculture company. When Tim joined a team that created a WhatsApp to scale businesses, he solidified a personal ethos that would ultimately dictate all of his business decisions; he saw that there is a critical and urgent need for the industry to evolve and transform in our lifetime to address the environmental crisis. This rang close to home for Tim, who has had a lifelong affinity for all things outdoors - from gardening, skiing, and yoga, to competing in triathlons and ultra distance running, to cooking with sustainably farmed local produce. He realized his next venture needed to serve the environment that had always played such an integral role in his life. Tim teamed up with his childhood friend Spencer Arnold to manifest this mission into their radically clean, radically sustainable personal care company: Bathing Culture. San Francisco-based bath & body brand Bathing Culture is designed for the adventurous, the design-driven, and the sustainably-minded. Founded by childhood friends Tim Hollinger and Spencer Arnold, the duo was searching for a non-toxic body wash that could hold up to their active & dirty lifestyles - surfing, climbing, and mountain biking from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headlands. They found that run-of-the-mill body washes just couldn’t keep up. Existing products typically stripped skin of moisture, were full of toxic synthetics, didn't deliver an effective clean, or were housed in ecologically harmful and aesthetically uninspiring packaging. Enter Bathing Culture: an homage to the joyful act of bathing and its centuries-old influence uniting cultures around the globe and across generations. Through Bathing Culture, Tim and Spencer hope to motivate customers to take part in this age-old tradition, bathing not only in the literal sense, but also bathing in all that the world has to offer, inspiring peace, community, health and happiness. Featuring everything your bathing ritual needs, the collection is highlighted by its hero product, the Mind and Body Wash: an organic, biodegradable, all-purpose & concentrated soap that makes you feel like you’re jumping into a cold river on a hot day and smells like the redwood forest canopies at dawn. Better yet? While it was an admittedly expensive investment for a young brand (and a choice that sometimes results in imperfect, smoky bottles), Spencer and Tim have pledged to use #NoNewPlastic - from their packaging to shipping materials. They're one of the few companies to use bottles made from 100% pre-existing recycled material, sourced locally in CA. Featuring purely plants and minerals, with no toxins, sulfates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, or dyes, Bathing Culture is truly Radical. Self. Care.Listen to more Causeartist podcasts here.Submit news to Causeartist hereCheck out:ImpactInvestor.io - Discover impact investors from around the world.Podcast Made with TransistorPodcast cover design Made with CanvaBuild amazing web platforms with Webflow

Adila Cokar // Founder of The Good Tee and Source My Garment
In episode 85 of the Disruptors for GOOD podcast, I speak with Adila Cokar, founder of The Good Tee and Source My Garment, on how to responsibly use offshore manufacturing and disrupt the lifecycle of fast fashion.Adila Cokar is the visionary behind Source My Garment, the essential book written on how to responsibly offshore manufacturing, and a media-acclaimed, award-winning serial entrepreneur. She has over a decade of experience working closely with offshore factories, as well as partnering with and building social businesses within the fashion industry. Her expertise includes sustainable product development, offshore manufacturing processes, end-to-end management, and business strategy. She has been featured in Apparel Magazine, Sourcing Journal, The Epoch Times, Just-Style.com, and more.Written to help her clients fully understand the process of getting from idea to manufacture, Executive manufacturing consultant Adila Cokar wrote the ultimate guide to kickstart your production. She draws on her extensive experience to show you how to plan effectively, lower your costs, avoid potential manufacturing problems, prepare for production, design sustainably and more.Adila is also founder of The Good Tee, which mission is to make it easier for any size brand to sell responsibly made products. The Good Tee is a collections of sustainable basics which are a blank canvas for brands to print on. Fashion startups can rip out our back neck label and replace it with their own. Established brands can integrate their values of being responsible by purchasing The Good Tee for uniforms or promotional use. We customize any product from start to finish. The Good Tee's vision was originally conceived in 2008, when founder Adila Cokar, a responsible apparel manufacturing consultant, was on a sourcing trip in India. She read an article about the ongoing issue of the growing suicide rates among India's farmers. "Since 1995, more than 270k cotton farmers in India alone have committed suicide. " -The Guardian. With high levels of illiteracy and limited land holdings, many cotton farmers live in poverty; their sparse livelihoods dependent on middle-men or 'ginners' who often buy their cotton at prices well below the cost of production. After learning this, there was no turning back. The Good Tee was born. "Fast fashion" is known to hurt the planet and the people that produce our goods. That's why The Good Tee champions responsible manufacturing: slower production schedules, ethical working conditions, and fair deals for all. After receiving Fairtrade certification, Adila made it her mission to make it easier for consumers and businesses to source the supply chain that supports responsibly manufactured apparel.
