This address was delivered at the 2016 Press Freedom Australia Dinner, presented by MEAA, the IFJ Asia Pacific and the Walkley Foundation. The Press Freedom Australia Dinner raises funds for the Media Safety and Solidarity Fund. The MSSF is supported by donations from Australian journalists and media personnel to assist colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region through times of emergency, war and hardship. Established in 2005, the fund is a unique and tangible product of strong interregional comradeship. it is administered through the Asia-Pacific office of the International Federation of Journalists in collaboration with MEAA and the Media Safety and Solidarity board.
