How to Work Online, Remain Productive, and Connect with People (Ep 138)
I am always giving my clients tips on how to work online. Here are the key complaints I hear from clients and friends:It's hard to connect with peopleIt's hard to keep productiveIt's lonely, and There's a tendency to work too muchBut, working online is now the main aspect of white-collar working life. Many office workers who, pre-pandemic, had to commute to work now can work remotely. Even if they go back to the office, you may find it empty, and most of the work you do is still in front of the computer anyway. So for transitional office-based companies, virtual companies, working for yourself, or job hunting, I hope you will find these tips helpful.Read the full Blog on the WebsiteJoin 5,000+ Readers of The Job Hunting Newsletter: Subscribe NowLear More About Renata's career coaching and courses Timestamps to guide your listening:7:43 - Be ruthless with emails12:13 - GIFs and Emojis are fine14:31 - Videos and voice messages are your friend16:18 - Look good on video20:24 - Create fun traditions and opportunities working online21:37 - Have at least two monitors22:33 - Find time during the week to have real coffee with a colleague or a walking meeting.Links mentioned in this episode:My group coaching program - register your interest for the next intake!About the host, Renata BernardeHello, I'm Renata Bernarde, the Host of The Job Hunting Podcast. Working for Yourself vs Working for a Company: My Personal Experience and Recommendations (Ep 137)
I get asked a lot by my clients what it's like to work for myself. We also discuss this option when working on the client's future goals and career plans. So, in this episode, I wanted to share with you my experience working for myself since 2019, compared with my previous experience being an employee from 2002 until the end of 2018.Before 2002, I also had my own business from 1993 until 2000 and took a year to study in 2001. You can learn more about my career story by watching or listening to episode number 62 of the Job Hunting Podcast. I have also recorded an episode on how to transition from a corporate job to being a business owner. But this episode is different: it's a comparison of the two different work types and lifestyles. Also important to note as you listen to this episode is that I am in Australia. So wherever you are in the world, you may need to translate some of these concepts to your local terminology, especially if it has to do with tax benefits.Read the full Blog on the WebsiteJoin 5,000+ Readers of The Job Hunting Newsletter: Subscribe NowLear More About Renata's career coaching and courses Timestamps to guide your listening:Reasons to love working for myself:21:50 - I'm my own boss24:13 - You can earn more money28:22 - Flexibility and balance30:33 - I am happier32:08 - I spend less33:33 - I am entrepreneurial34:04 - It can be more financially secure than having a job38:21 - Potential tax savingsAdvantages of working for a company:39:52 - Regular paychecks40:31 - You can focus on what you do best41:15 - Teamwork42:52 - Pay package and benefits44:13 - Regular working hours.45:15 - Opportunities only available in your sectorLinks mentioned in this episode:Subscribe to my newsletterEpisode 62 - From immigrant to CEOEpisode 79 - Ten Tips on How to Make the Transition From Corporate Job to Business OwnerJoin my Facebook Group - it’s free!Follow me on Instagram and LinkedInRegister for an Australian business number (ABN)Episode 78 - Portfolio career: What is it, and is it for you? - featuring Jacinta WhelanAbout the host, Renata BernardeHello, I'm Renata Bernarde, the Host of The Job Hunting Podcast.
