Imposter Syndrome
Join me for the 3rd episode of DYNH as I discuss what Imposter Syndrome is, some of the myths around Imposter syndrome, how we experience Imposter Syndrome as medics, and what you can do to tackle it both at work and as an individual.
My challenge to you is to take one of the techniques for managing Imposter Syndrome at the end of the podcast, and to implement it this week. Please let me know how you get on if you chose to do so. There is an option for sending voice notes through my Anchor page which I will link here: https://anchor.fm/doyourselfnoharm

Humanism in medicine with Dr Laura Vater
Welcome to the second episode of my new podcast, Do Yourself No Harm.
I’m Dr Claire Ashley, and I am a GP, burnout survivor and mental health advocate. For today’s episode I discuss the importance of compassion and humanism in medicine with Dr Laura Vater, a US based oncologist.
Humanism and compassion in medicine is not just about improving patient care and our relationship with patients, it’s also about enhancing and improving the clinician experience, and improving recruitment and retention. In this podcast we also talk about how COVID has changed our jobs, how the impact of sleep deprivation and lack of physical and mental rest affects us, and we also discuss the impact of poor staffing and issues with recruitment and retention. Dr Vater also shares her SMILE scale, which is an evidence based tool to help us prioritise our physical and mental health.
I hope you enjoy our chat today, and if you do please hit like, subscribe and leave a review.
My brand new subscription and membership for medics is now available from my website , and if you’re interested in knowing more or signing up, please head over to www.doyourselfnoharm.com, or feel free to contact me through Instagram @drclaireashley

The biggest lessons I've learnt from my burnout
The first episode of the Do Yourself No Harm podcast is about the biggest lessons I've learnt during my burnout recovery as a doctor in the NHS:
1. What burnout is
2. The causes of burnout and the elephant in the room
3. Why prevention is better than cure
4. Why recovery is so hard
5. Do not do it alone
If you are a current NHS worker and this topic is something that you identify with, then you can access help for mental health problems and burnout through the oraganisations that I've linked below:
NHS Practitioner Health - support for doctors and dentists
Doctors in Distress - support groups for a range of healthcare workers (not just doctors!)
Shout - free counselling for all
Frontline 19 - a free & confidential psychological support service for people working in the NHS & frontline services in the UK
With You In Mind - free talking therapy for NHS workers
The Ambulance Staff Charity - support for ambulance staff
You can find me on Instagram and TikTok with the handle @drclaireashley, and more information about my new subscription for medics is over on my website www.doyourselfnoharm.com
