'Sweeper!' by Steve Bruce with Ivo Graham - Part 2 of 2 (QK Reloaded)

In an effort to become podcasting's version of UK Gold, we're spinning it back and replaying the glory days of QK, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... Part 2 of Ivo Graham tackling Sweeper. This episode was first broadcast 3rd April 2018. ------- Quickly Kevin: S03 EP03 - 'Sweeper!' by Steve Bruce with Ivo Graham (Part 2 of 2) THIS IS PART 2 of 2 - if you haven't already listened to part 1 please go back and do so now! In a special double episode, it's the much anticipated return of comedian Ivo Graham to discuss the second book in Steve Bruce's literary canon, 'Sweeper!'. If you haven't already listened to the first appearance in Series 1 of 'Quickly Kevin...' we recommend you do that now, and for those of you who have, rest assured as old favourites the Jaguar XJ8, a questionable attitude to gender equality, and the trademark leaden prose all return. Along with some fascinating new ruminations on tripe, attacking full backs, and the most sexually charged dialogue since Bogart and Bacall first shared the screen, as Bruce's alter ego, football manager turned reluctant detective Steve Barnes, crosses paths with a gun toting femme-fatal in a clumsily plotted sequel we'll generously describe as barely comprehensible. All this and the usual correspondence, brand new features (because that's exactly what the show needs) and the end of episode 90's Football based quiz. Enjoy! Lee Dixon (QK Reloaded)

In an effort to become podcasting's version of UK Gold, we're spinning it back and replaying the glory days of QK, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... Scorer of the greatest own goal of the 90s, Lee Dixon. The episode was first broadcast 26th March 2018. -- In terms of value for money, there can be few more astute signings than the £375,000 George Graham paid Stoke City for Lee Dixon in January 1988. 25% of arguably the greatest 90s defence, Lee finished his Arsenal career with four league titles, three FA Cup winners medals, a UEFA Cup Winner's Cup medal and infamously a runners-up medal in the latter competition too. But it was the first of his league championship medals that intrigued us most; the night of 26th May 1989, Liverpool v Arsenal - a championship play off in the last game of the season. For a whole host of reasons, from Fever Pitch to the ramifications of the Hillsborough disaster, the 1988/89 season marked the end of football as it had largely been for 100 years. And in it's culmination, Michael Thomas' last minute winner didn't just cement the league for Arsenal, it also cemented the idea of live football as a major box office draw, with the dawn of the Premier League coming soon after. We put all of this to Lee. Plus... we speculate as to whether Sean Dyche eats worms. Food takes centre stage in this documentary - can Theo survive dodgy pies, a toast-related standoff with the players, and a debate over whether staff should be allowed to take burgers home? And then there’s Putty, the unforgettable Millwall kitman… you’re welcome in advance for introducing him into your life. Plus, we delve into your correspondence - so more of David Beckham being shit at penalties AND our very first 00’s VAR! James Richardson & Football Italia (QK Reloaded)

In an effort to become podcasting's version of UK Gold, we're spinning it back and replaying the glory days of QK, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... The greatest man to ever set foot in a piazza.. James Richardson. This episode was first published 29th March 2018. ------ Series 3 begins with one of the central protagonists in the cast of 90's football; James Richardson. Synonymous with a golden period of Calcio, the sight of James holding aloft a pink paper on Football Italia was as regular an occurrence as a Baggio goal. We get the gossip on all the big topics; did Paul Ince ring James up for tips on Tomb Raider? What was Elvis Costello like? And did James ever have a night out with Gazza and Jimmy Five Bellies? We’ve also got big updates on both James Beattie’s Latin textbook and Lee Sharpe’s infamous fan club. LBHY: James Beattie

For this episode, we are joined by former England, Southampton and Everton striker James Beattie. James talks about being an elite swimmer as a youngster and trading that in to scoop up dog shit at the Blackburn Rovers training ground. He also chats about playing alongside Matt Le Tissier at Southampton, his theory for not being picked for Euro 2004 and tearing up Doug Ellis’ front garden. Plus, we dig into your correspondence, including a look back at The Match and a quite sensational goalkeeping display from comedian Terry Alderton. In an effort to become podcasting's version of UK Gold, we're spinning it back and replaying the glory days of QK, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... Broadsheet newspaper reading left-back, Graeme Le Saux. This episode was first broadcast 27th November 2017. ----- Our guest this week is one of the central characters of 90s English football; Chelsea, Blackburn and England's answer to the infamous 'left sided problem', Graeme Le Saux. Discerning broadsheet reader and noted 'clever footballer', Graeme's career was a 90s rollercoaster ride through triumph, success and controversy. From scoring England's 18th greatest goal to washing his own training kit at Blackburn; we do our best to cover it all.
