Kristin Hersh on Clear Pond Road, Nick At Nite, & Signs That Give Our Lives Direction
Kristin Hersh catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about her latest solo album, Clear Pond Road. The Throwing Muses leader tells us about trashing an album she was working on prior to this new set, how the title comes from a sign she found in a junk shop and how it gave her direction, as well as the generally strong sense of place the LP focuses on, especially New Orleans and Southern California. Hersh also discusses how she writes songs to discover something for herself, her love of classic Nick At Nite like Bewitched (which she named a new song after) and Leave It To Beaver, how she once played an Australian show under a big tree that she thought was supposed to be a club, and how the guitar she picks up dictates whether the song will end up as a solo cut or with Throwing Muses of 50 Foot Wave.Listen to Kristin Hersh sit and chat about all this and more in the new episode or watch it on Youtube. Physical creator & showrunner Annie Weisman joins Kyle Meredith to talk about wrapping up the Apple TV+ series that stars Rose Byrne as Sheila Rubin, the quietly tormented housewife in '80s San Diego who takes control of her life after finding an exercise group. Weisman talks about the vision she carried about how the show would find its conclusion and what it was like to create and spend time with a flawed character in search of redemption, as well as setting the story in the 80s that was still completely unkind toward women. The veteran writer also dishes on Dierdre Friel’s character Greta and her importance to the story, how the series looks at the loneliness of ambition, and, of course, the big 80s soundtrack that carries throughout the episodes.Listen to “Physical” creator & showrunner Annie Weisman sit and chat about all this and more in the new episode or watch it on Youtube. The Breeders on 30 Years of Last Splash, J Mascis-Assist, & Kim Deal Solo Album
The Breeders sit down with Kyle Meredith to talk about the 30th-anniversary edition of Last Splash. Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs, and Jim Macpherson discuss the work that went into making the indie classic, including the near-mythological amount of experimentation, and how The Weird 90s opened the door for their unlikely single “Cannonball” to be a worldwide hit. The band also recalls the story of how they thought they had lost the original analog tapes before an industry friend helped them locate a secondary version that would also unearth the previously unreleased “Go Man Go” and an alternate version of their hit single “Divine Hammer” that featured Dinosaur Jr’s J. Mascis on lead vocals. As for what’s next, the band tells us that Kim Deal has a solo album lined up as well as tour dates with Belly, which of course opens the door for former member Tanya Donlley to join them on stage.Listen to The Breeders sit and chat about all this and more in the new episode or watch it on Youtube.
