Jake Fischer and Dan Devine go through the NBA news of the week, preview the start of free agency and do a vibe check on the Golden State Warriors.(01:25) - Five Out(02:35) - Pistons fire Monty Williams(08:35) - Jeff Van Gundy joins Clippers coaching staff (12:33) - Mark Cuban no longer running the Mavericks(16:35) - Joe Mazzulla knee surgery(23:00) - Rich Paul on Bronny James(30:00) - NBA offseason key dates(31:45) - 2024 NBA free agency preview(54:15) - VIBE CHECK: Golden State WarriorsOn this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine talk about everything that’s going on in the NBA this week (NOTE: This episode was recorded before the Lakers hired JJ Redick and before the Bulls-Thunder trade). The guys start things off by talking about Monty Williams, who has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Detroit Pistons this week. The guys explain why Detroit made the move now and what to expect next from the Pistons and Williams.Jeff Van Gundy is leaving the champion Boston Celtics to become an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers, which feels weird for a former successful NBA head coach who has been an ESPN broadcaster for almost 20 years. Dan explores why Van Gundy is getting back into coaching for a third act in his life. Now that the NBA Finals have concluded, it was revealed that Mark Cuban is no longer running basketball operations for the Dallas Mavericks. No longer will every Mavericks decision need to be made by Cuban, and that will be odd but also a sign that this team is starting to become more like every other team in the NBA.After talking about Joe Mazzulla needing knee surgery, the guys talk for a bit about how Rich Paul has handled the NBA Draft on behalf of Bronny James and what it might mean for his early NBA career.Jake goes through some of the important NBA offseason dates coming up this summer before the guys dive into a preview of the start of NBA free agency. Jake talks about which big dominoes will determine what happens with everyone else and Dan wonders how much better the Oklahoma City Thunder might get this offseason. Finally, the Golden State Warriors are trying to be competitive with some future Hall of Famers on the roster, but might it finally be time to consider blowing it up and starting over? The Warriors are paying a ton of money in tax and continue to miss the playoffs.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Celtics are champions, defeat Mavericks 4-1 in NBA Finals | No Cap Room
Jake Fischer and Dan Devine recap game 5 of the NBA Finals, which saw the Boston Celtics win their 18th NBA championship with Jaylen Brown winning Finals MVP.(01:10) - REACTION: Celtics win 18th NBA championship(35:40) - Boston Celtics offseason preview(48:15) - Dallas Mavericks offseason previewOn this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer is at TD Garden and soaked in champagne after watching the Boston Celtics celebrate their record-breaking 18th NBA championship after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games. The guys start by talking about Jayson Tatum, who showed off his skills as a passer, and maybe exorcized some demons along the way, while leading the Celtics in every major offensive category during the NBA Finals. They then turn their attention to Kyrie Irving, who still seems plagued by the Boston crowd. While he didn’t react to it, he definitely played much better in Dallas than he did in front of the heckling Celtics fans. Luka Doncic once again looked disengaged, especially on defense, leading Jake to declare his disappointment that Luka could respond to criticism in such a big way in game 4 and then not carry any of that through to game 5.Jaylen Brown was voted Finals MVP, and the guys talk about why Brown won that vote over Tatum and Jrue Holiday, namely that he was the guy who took charge every time the Celtics seemed to need somebody to do so. Then they talk about Brown’s growth, and compare him to the two guys picked ahead of him in the NBA Draft (Ben Simmons & Brandon Ingram). Finally, the guys talk about offseason decisions that are facing both the Celtics and Mavericks and wonder about the path each team will have to face if they want to make it back to the NBA Finals next season.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

NBA Finals Game 4 Reaction: Mavs stomp Celtics, sending series back to Boston | Good Word with Goodwill
Vincent Goodwill and Isis “Ice” Young recap game 4 of the NBA Finals, which saw the Dallas Mavericks crush the Celtics to send the series back to Boston.(01:05) - Mavericks win game 4, send NBA Finals back to Boston(14:40) - Luka Doncic responds to criticism(20:25) - NBA Finals game 5 preview(28:55) - Who will be Finals MVP?On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by new Yahoo Sports contributor Isis “Ice” Young to break down how the Mavericks dominated the Celtics on Friday night.Vince and Ice kick off the show by talking about the Mavericks playing with force, on both offense and defense, and how it aligned with Dereck Lively’s quote about being the aggressor against the Celtics.Luka Doncic, who has been criticized by almost everybody in the media, played with pride and put together one of his best two-way performances of the playoffs. Ice says that the criticism was warranted, but only because Luka is regarded as one of the best basketball players in the world and should play more consistent defense.Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown looked lost against the Dallas defense, as did pretty much everyone on the Celtics. What can change before game 5 in Boston? Will Kyrie Irving be as effective in Boston as he has been in Dallas? Finally, Vinnie and Ice debate on who the Finals MVP would be right now and make guesses as to who will be named Finals MVP by the end of the series. Also, both of them make spicy predictions on what will happen in game 5 on Monday.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

NBA Finals Game 3 Reaction: Celtics take 3-0 lead, Mavericks have no answers | No Cap Room
Jake Fischer and Dan Devine talk about their experiences at game 3 of the NBA Finals and wonder if the series could be a wake-up call for Luka Doncic.(00:00) - Hello friends!(05:30) - NBA Finals: Celtics take 3-0 lead in Dallas(34:50) - NBA coaching news(40:20) - Cavaliers coaching search(47:00) - Lakers coaching searchOn this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine are in Dallas following the Boston Celtics’ game 3 win in the NBA Finals that gave them a 3-0 series lead. The guys kick off the show by talking about how they were dressed for the event, which led to some mockery by other members of the media when Jake and Vincent Goodwill wore the same color suit.Eventually, we get to the basketball game. Everything looks easy for the Boston Celtics, who seem to be cruising towards a sweep. Meanwhile, everything seems very difficult for Luka Doncic and the other Dallas Mavericks. The guys talk for a while about Luka fouling out of game 3, his penchant for complaining to the refs, his fitness and his abhorrent defense. Will being embarrassed on this stage lead Luka to change his on-court and off-court actions? After the ad break, the guys get into the coaching news and rumors around the NBA, starting with the Pistons and Monty Williams. It would be expensive to part with Monty, but it’s apparently one option in front of new Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon.Jake then talks about James Borrego, who appears to be the front-runner to get the job as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and should be able to get more out of their offense than J.B. Bickerstaff did. The guys then discuss the Lakers, who are still interviewing candidates after striking out on recruiting Dan Hurley over the weekend. Is JJ Redick still the favorite to win the job? What are the other choices? And who do the Lakers even want to be after LeBron James retires?Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

It’s not just Kyrie, though. Luka Doncic has been the only Mavericks player really playing well through two games. Dan talks about a moment of poise that he saw from the Boston Celtics, not a team typically praised for their poise, before talking about how they have forced the Mavericks offense to play differently from how they’re comfortable. The guys talk about Jayson Tatum making an impact, despite not shooting well, and then discuss Jrue Holiday’s massive impact through two games before wondering if one of them might end up winning Finals MVP.After the ad break, the guys talk about what the Mavericks can do differently in Dallas, the offensive ceiling that the Celtics still have not hit in this series and the potential impact a Kristaps Porzingis leg injury could have.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts
