If the team doesn’t have a deep playoff run this year, finances will start to become a big factor into whether or not the team will be looking to trade Ingram or Zion this offseason.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

The rejuvenated Warriors, the Clippers rebrand, NBA unwritten rules & fixing All-Star weekend | Good Word with Goodwill

Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by Sam Amick from The Athletic to talk about the NBA’s unwritten rules, how to fix All-Star weekend, the Clippers rebrand and the suddenly scary Golden State Warriors.00:00 - Welcome to the Good Word00:55 - NBA fights over unwritten rules08:05 - Can you fix NBA All-Star Weekend?18:00 - Los Angeles Clippers rebrand26:05 - Klay Thompson38:15 - Golden State Warriors52:25 - Which potential Western Conference Finals matchup would be the most fun?On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by Sam Amick from The Athletic to talk about the very spicy Western Conference playoff race, but first…There have been a number of fights in the NBA this week stemming from violations of “unwritten rules”. Vincent tries to figure out why it’s happening more now than before and Sam criticizes the rules themselves.Sam had the players’ perspective from All-Star weekend in Indianapolis, so he helps to explain why the players didn’t put in much effort and the complicated relationship between the players and NBA commissioner Adam Silver as a result. The Los Angeles Clippers announced a rebrand this morning, with new logos, colors and uniforms to coincide with their move to the Intuit Dome next season. Vinnie and Sam give their opinions and talk about why it’s important for the Clippers to continue creating distance between themselves and the Lakers.Klay Thompson isn’t having the best season of his career but it has maybe been the most interesting. Sam talked with Klay recently and told us about Klay’s transition to a bench role, a transition that is happening mid-season and one that requires him to swallow his pride. One of the reasons Klay can take that role on the bench is that the Warriors have found some good young players that they want to give more minutes to. With 10 wins in their last 13 games, they have definitely found something that is working and Steve Kerr’s contract extension keeps their championship contender window open a bit longer.Speaking of, Vinnie asked Sam to list which Western Conference Finals matchup he would find the most fun and got two very different answers. Along the way, the guys discuss the ways in which Nikola Jokic is similar to Steph Curry.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Nets fire Jacque Vaughn, Thunder are built for the playoffs & other interesting NBA storylines | No Cap Room

Coming out of the NBA All-Star break, Yahoo Sports NBA writer Dan Devine and Patrick Redford from Defector talk about the storylines they’re most interested to watch play out.00:00 - Hello friends!03:20 - Nets fire Jacque Vaughn11:25 - Oklahoma City Thunder20:50 - Who is the 2nd best team in the East?24:55 - Milwaukee Bucks34:10 - Orlando Magic38:35 - Sacramento Kings47:15 - Minnesota Timberwolves53:35 - New Orleans Pelicans59:05 - Denver NuggetsOn this episode of No Cap Room, Jake Fischer is out and Dan Devine has brought in Patrick Redford from Defector to talk about the NBA storylines that they are the most interested to watch play out over the next few months. The guys start with a news story, the Nets have fired Jacque Vaughn as their head coach and have handed the interim position to Kevin Ollie. Dan likes some of what he’s hearing from Kevin Ollie, but there’s not a lot of hope for the Brooklyn Nets these days.Dan asks Patrick about a team that he particularly enjoys watching, which leads to a long conversation about how deep and versatile the Oklahoma City Thunder are. With Gordon Hayward added to the mix, who is to say if the Thunder are built for the playoffs or not?Patrick admits that the Boston Celtics look incredible and is curious to see which team ends up facing them in the Eastern Conference Finals this year. Dan points out that things aren’t exactly getting less chaotic in Milwaukee, while Patrick tries his best to defend Doc Rivers from JJ Redick. While continuing to talk about teams they like, both guys find the Orlando Magic’s brand of toughness and defense interesting, and everyone wants to see if the Magic will ever find a guard that they want to build around.Patrick is an admitted Sacramento Kings fan, so he talks for a while about his hopes for the team this season and explains his low expectations for them. Meanwhile, Dan talks about how much he’s looking forward to a different kind of team (the Minnesota Timberwolves) attempting to break the NBA Playoffs this year with their size. After talking about the unrealized potential of the New Orleans Pelicans, the guys wonder if the Denver Nuggets need to be worried about their spot in the standings or if the team is good enough that it doesn’t matter.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Krysten focuses mostly on the #1 overall UConn Huskies and the incredibly disappointing season for the USC Trojans, who will miss the tournament. That leads to a discussion about Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, and whether he has shown enough in his freshman season at USC to warrant a team using a 1st round draft pick on him. After trying to explain why the Kentucky Wildcats can’t seem to consistently win despite having the most talent in college basketball, Krysten gives us a list of future NBA players to be watching out for in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Finally, NBA commissioner Adam Silver discussed a changing future for the G League Ignite during his media availability in Indianapolis. NIL has completely changed the equation for recruiting young players, and the system seems broken in a way that might be hurting development more than helping. Krysten explains what happened, where the G League Ignite are right now, and what the future of youth development could look like for the NBA.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

What's wrong with NBA All-Star Weekend and can it be fixed? | Good Word with Goodwill

Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill checks in from Indianapolis the morning after the 2024 NBA All-Star Game to wonder why the event has lost its competitive spirit.00:00 - What’s wrong with NBA All-Star Weekend?26:10 - Steph vs. Sabrina31:40 - Ideas for fixing NBA All-Star WeekendOn this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill podcast, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill checks in from Indianapolis the morning after the 2024 NBA All-Star Game to wonder why the event has lost its competitive spirit. From Saturday night’s event that lacked any atmosphere because it was being held in an NFL stadium, to Anthony Edwards shooting left-handed, to a game on Sunday that nobody seemed interested in putting any effort into, NBA All-Star Weekend has gone from being one of the most fun weekends of the year for basketball fans to a total dud.Steph Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu was the lone standout. A brand new, never-been tried event that lived up to the expectations and then some. Vinnie explains how difficult that event must’ve been and why only Steph Curry could’ve been the one to pull it off from the NBA side of things. Finally, Vince and Producer John discuss some crazy ideas for changing the NBA All-Star Weekend, similar to how the NFL has recently made major changes to its Pro Bowl, in an effort to find something that can bring the fun back to the event.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Warriors attempt LeBron trade, Knicks file protest, Magic retire Shaq's number & All-Star thoughts | No Cap Room

Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine get together to talk through the basketball news of the week, including a report that the Warriors tried to trade for LeBron James.00:00 - Hello friends!02:20 - Knicks file protest with NBA05:25 - Hornets GM search14:35 - NBA expansion20:15 - Magic retire Shaq’s jersey25:10 - LeBron to the Warriors?44:20 - NBA All-Star WeekendOn this episode of No Cap Room, Jake Fischer and Dan Devine go through all of the NBA news of the week as we head towards All-Star Weekend.First up, the New York Knicks filed a protest with the league over a loss that included a late foul call against Jalen Brunson. The referee said after the game that the foul call was a mistake, but that still might not be enough for the Knicks to win this protest. The Charlotte Hornets have started their search for a new head of basketball operations, so Jake Fischer put on his reporter hat and tells us which names are the most likely candidates to end up in Charlotte before the end of the season.Adam Silver has once again brought up the topic of Las Vegas and NBA expansion. Jake is tired of hearing about it, while Dan wonders what would happen to the NBA In-Season Tournament. The Orlando Magic retired Shaquille O’Neal’s #32, and SuperProducer John Gennaro thinks that he had something to do with it. Meanwhile, Dan is shockingly upset over the actual banner that was lifted into the rafters.Following the report that the Golden State Warriors (and Philadelphia 76ers) had reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers about potentially trading for LeBron James, Jake and Dan discuss why the Warriors would make such a move and why this story isn’t over just because the trade deadline has passed. Finally, with NBA All-Star Weekend kicking off tomorrow, the guys talk about what they’re excited for (Jaylen Brown in the dunk contest, Steph vs. Sabrina, Wembanyama in the skill competition, etc) and what they’re disappointed in (moving back to East vs. West and away from the Elam ending) before Dan explains that this event isn’t for basketball die-hards.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

It’s a bummer that Embiid is injured, but it opens up the possibility of guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic or even Donovan Mitchell getting into the MVP conversation.Chris’ love letters center around the play of the Knicks’ role players, defense-first players finding a way to stay on the floor (Herb Jones, Kris Dunn, etc.), Victor Wembanyama’s dominant play against the Raptors and the Minnesota Timberwolves figuring out how to win with Rudy Gobert.Dan talks about how happy he is that the early season surprise teams (Timberwolves, Pacers, Thunder, etc.) are still playing well and likely headed towards a high seed in the playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks playing better under Doc Rivers, and the tenacious duo of Amen and Ausar Thompson.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Warriors finding themselves, Lowry signs with 76ers & Dinwiddie signs with Lakers | Good Word with Goodwill

Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill talks about the NBA news coming out of the weekend and into buyout season before discussing the suddenly resurgent Golden State Warriors.00:00 - Introduction / News02:30 - Lakers sign Spencer Dinwiddie08:05 - 76ers sign Kyle Lowry10:35 - Are the Warriors back?36:20 - NBA viewing guide40:50 - St. Cecilia’s GymOn this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill podcast, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill talks about the NBA news coming out of the weekend, including Mitch Kupchak stepping aside as the President of Basketball Operations for the Charlotte Hornets and Jimmy Butler taking a leave of absence. The Los Angeles Lakers did nothing at the trade deadline, but they’re trying to make a little bit of change by bringing in Spencer Dinwiddie, who was bought out by the Raptors after being traded away by the Nets.Kyle Lowry also gets to return to his hometown, signing with the Philadelphia 76ers after being bought out by the Hornets, who got him back as part of the Terry Rozier trade to the Heat. The bulk of this podcast episode is about the Golden State Warriors, who are finally starting to look like themselves again since Draymond Green returned from suspension and Jonathan Kuminga complained about the opportunities he was being given by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Now that they seem to have steadied themselves, Vinnie is wondering how they will carry their momentum through the all-star break and then what happens to their rotations once Chris Paul returns from hand surgery.Vince and Producer John then pick some of their favorite NBA games of the week before closing with a call for people to support the St. Cecilia Gym in Detroit. 2024 NBA Trade Deadline reactions | No Cap Room

Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine get together as the buzzer goes off to talk about everything that’s happened in the last 48 hours before the NBA trade deadline.00:00 - Hello friends!02:35 - Jake’s take on a quiet deadline04:15 - Boston Celtics07:33 - Minnesota Timberwolves09:55 - Utah Jazz / Toronto Raptors16:20 - 76ers / Pacers / Bucks28:35 - Dallas Mavericks31:25 - Suns / Nets / Hornets33:10 - New York KnicksOn this very special episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine get together as the buzzer goes off to talk about everything that’s happened in the last 48 hours before the NBA trade deadline. It was a tame deadline, there were no superstars dealt this week, and Jake has a theory that the new CBA is to blame. It restricts what some of the contenders can do, and that showed with how many deals were made just to get teams off of that second apron. The guys explain why Xavier Tillman (to the Celtics) and Monte Morris (to the Timberwolves) are great depth pieces, even if the fans of both of those teams maybe were hoping to get something bigger and more exciting. The Jazz finally revealed themselves to be sellers, and not buyers, by dealing away Simone Fontecchio and Kelly Olynyk, but the Toronto Raptors confused everyone by trading for Olynyk, keeping bruce Brown, and waiving Spencer Dinwiddie after trading Dennis Schröder to get him.The Pacers made some interesting moves, sending Buddy Hield to the 76ers and then immediately replacing him with Doug McDermott. Dan explains why that fits their roster better and Jake says their front office has quickly turned into one of the NBA’s smartest. The 76ers seem ready to pair Buddy Field with Kyle Lowry on the buyout market, but they’ll still have to survive the next month with Mo Bamba and Paul Reed in place of the injured Joel Embiid.Jake says the Bucks were inquiring all over the league to get some perimeter defense added to their roster, but Patrick Beverley wasn’t a name that he was expecting to hear headed to Milwaukee. He improves their perimeter defense, but does he offer anything else? The Dallas Mavericks made two big deals, picking up center Daniel Gafford from the Wizards and power forward P.J. Washington from the Hornets. Jake would’ve preferred for them to get a big wing instead, like Andrew Wiggins, and says this doesn’t make them competitive with the top teams in the West. The Suns picked up Royce O’Neale from the Brooklyn Nets, after Miles Bridges decided to stay with the Charlotte Hornets, and Gordon Hayward found a perfect destination in the Oklahoma City Thunder. We finish the show with a conversation around the New York Knicks, who swung a deal to get Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons. The Knicks are dealing with a lot of injuries right now, so both guys will immediately help the team and will probably be in the starting lineup. However, when the Knicks get everyone healthy, this might be the most talented team they’ve had in 20 years.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts
