Alrighty besties! It's that time of the year again: BACK TO SCHOOL C&C SPECIAL!!! Each year we dedicate one episode to kicking off the school year with safety tips for both students and parents! Last year we focused on college students, this year we wanted to discuss internet safety for elementary school students by giving you a case that demonstrates just how vulnerable young kids are to fabricated stories and lore on the Internet. Morgan starts us off by covering the origin of Slender Man. What started off as a photoshop contest morphed into one of the biggest internet creepypasta sensations of the 2010s and led to finding possible proof of such a crypid being real, dating back centuries. Taylar then covers the case often referred to as "The Slender Man Stabbing" from Waukesha, Wisconsin in May of 2014. Three best friends: Morgan, Anissa, and Payton celebrated a 12th birthday just like any other 6th graders would by having a sleepover. No one knew the horrific events that would follow after 5 months of planning and the motivation being: becoming Slender Man's "Proxies". This tragedy takes the breath away from anyone and everyone that hears this case. Remember that the internet is now woven into our everyday lives, as adults and also for children. It is not a safe space for those who are vulnerable and because of this, it is our responsibility to protect children and educate them on internet safety- not from just the predators that lurk there, but from the stories and websites that they are not mature enough to understand. The home is said to bring hauntings and tragedies to anyone who lives there, which is probably why it was sold for literally $1 in its third auction! Thankfully, the home was purchased in 2014 by a PROFESSIONAL Ghost Hunter/Paranormal Investigator, who determined that no soul should live in such a demonic home... but then turned around and sold it... for someone to live in... yeah, idk? These two Dutch girls were preparing to kick off 4 weeks of volunteering at a local school, when they went on a hike to a nearby volcano on April 1, 2012 and never returned. Two Months later, their remains were found scattered on the banks of a river, 95 miles away from their host family's home and an 8 hour hike away from the location they were last seen. Many believe that they simply got lost in the rainforest, but others believe that foul play was involved. CAN YOU BELIEVE EP 150 IS NEXT WEEK?!?!?! It's been 149 Thursdays of Creeps and Crimes with our besties, we could never thank you enough for being here and your love and support! Morgan starts us off today, covering the Khamar-Daban Incident of 1993. This mystery is incredibly similar to and referred to as "the other Dyatlov Pass", which Morgan covered in episode 26 (yes, season 1, you know the rules- just no). It was summertime in Southern Siberia, Russia, when a group of 5 students set out on their hike through the intense mountain range at the lead of their instructor, 41 year old Lyudmila Korovina, an experienced hiking instructor and survivalist. However, only 1 student would make it back alive after a mysterious illness took the lives of the other group members. This student, 17 year old Valentina Utochenko, was so traumatized that, after being forced to survive on her own in the mountains for 4 days before her rescue, she was unable to speak for years to follow. What do you think happened in those mountains?  Taylar then covers the Feb. 2009 murder of 34 year old Chiquita Tate, an ambitious and rising affluent criminal defense attorney in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After being discovered brutally murdered in her office, investigators first believed that her death was the result of a robbery gone wrong, but pretty quickly it became clear that this was no robbery- Chiquita was targeted. Her husband, Greg Davis (or Harris, depending on the sources), told investigators everything they needed to know about the timeline of their night in hopes of helping them solve the case and deliver his wife the justice she deserved. The next morning, their bodies were discovered 150 yards from their tent. After one of the largest manhunts in Oklahoma History, investigators captured Gene Leroy Hart, the primary suspect in the murders. However, the more information that came out about what led investigators to Hart, the more suspicious many became about Hart being a suspect.
