Joe Daymond: From Homeless to Star Comedian, Performing with Theo Von & The Power of Social Media

Joe Daymond is one of New Zealand’s best and funniest comedians who shot to fame during lockdown with his snackable social media vids. He’s now an award-winning comedian, actor, director and producer who has sold out national tours across both New Zealand & Australia. In this episode we talk about his fast rise through the NZ comedy scene, why he lived out of his car for months, becoming the youngest Kiwi comedian to sell-out Sky City Theatre – and why it may have happened too quickly, dealing with success, coping with criticism, performing with Theo Von and meeting Dave Chappelle, finding balance at home and what the future looks like.Joe is hilarious, but he also has incredible depth. This conversation was a ripper, full of thoughtfulness and laughs.Joe also looks a lot like Seamus – and as this one progresses you’ll see more and more about how eerily similar they are. Two beautiful men – it’s good stuff. If you'd like to get one of our epic guests in to MC or Speak at your function or event, flick us a message by going to B2Bspeakers.co.nz.This episode is brought to you by TAB, download the new app today and get your bet on!Between Two Beers is now part of the Acast Creator Network, listen wherever you get your podcasts from, or watch the video on YouTube.Enjoy. Dr Alia Bojilova: Ex-NZ SAS Psychologist on Surviving Kidnapping in Syria & Resilience Tools

Strap in for this one, because Dr. Alia Bojilova is one of the most impressive guests we’ve had on the show. She moved to New Zealand from Bulgaria as a 17-year-old who didn’t speak a word of English but soon became the lead psychologist for the New Zealand SAS.After leaving the military she embarked on a PhD, focusing on the concept of resilience and is now a world leader in the field, working with some of the biggest names, companies and athletes in the world. In 2013, Alia was working as a United Nations military observer in Syria when she and two colleagues were kidnapped by rebel fighters, held at gunpoint and told they were going to be decapitated on camera. In this chat Alia explains why she and her colleagues were held hostage, how they managed to negotiate their release using the skills she’d developed with the SAS.Alia is also married to former guest Jamie Pennell – who you might remember from our episode last year – as the SAS solider who won NZ’s second highest military honor – the Gallantry Star. This was such an epic chat, and Alia’s story, her insight and the way she holds herself – will blow you away. We're also stoked to tell you about the business we've built. Mark Stafford: 20 Years at the TAB, Surviving Tragic Car Crash, MS Diagnosis & Testicular Cancer (Re-Release)

We kick off Between Two Beers in 2025 by re-releasing one of our favourite episodes of 2024 - with Mark Stafford. This ep is really special. There's just so much goodness in here.Staffy is a radio host, who is best known as the former face of the TAB, where he spent two decades as a bookmaker and broadcaster. But what's not so well-known is his roller-coaster ride through life with all its twists and turns. In this episode we talk about how he died in a car accident, before being brought back to life, beating cancer, getting diagnosed with MS and found his way to the TAB. He shares his best match-fixing stories, we talk about the legend of Steel Balls and all the most incredible yarns from being NZ's premier oddsmaker. We also talk about the devastating year of 2020, where he lost his job, his sister and his best friend in a short period of time. How he built himself back up, the friendships and lessons he leaned on and his reflections towards the end of this one - make it one of the greats.Staffy is such a lovely bloke, who's been through it all. He was incredibly candid and raw in this chat, and when you mix that up with being one of the best storytellers in NZ, made it one of our favs. We're also super stoked to have Staffy on the books of B2B Speakers, so if you’d like him to MC your night, or share his story at your function or event, flick us a message by going to www.b2bspeakers.co.nz.Also check out our epic lineup of former guests available for hire too.
