To be honest, this episode is more about the island of Curacao than it is about the Season 11 reunion. We were both a bit underwhelmed by the highly-produced reunion episode, so instead of hating on it for an hour and a half, we plucked out the highlights, and diverted onto other topics like the gay wedding Johnny’s attending (in Curacao), the seemingly arduous task of DJ’ing, meeting Mary’s, and sleeping on Muriel’s Wedding as a Matreon movie. After a season full of surprises (lest we forget last week's tragic hero elimination of Nina West), this week's final challenge felt like it was covering familiar territory. A'keria's choreography journey, Brooke's musical risks and Silky's black panties showing all feel like stories we've seen before. Yvie is the exception, rebounding from a string of low performances to the top of the heap, while Vanjie proves she is the queen of making exits. Season 11’s narrative goes south this week with the elimination of Nina West—especially considering that it was Silky’s less than smooth lip sync that earned her the shantay. (And of course: “Meh.”) While we’re heartbroken, we’re celebrating the pride of season 11 this week with some of our favorite Nina moments. And also questioning the (admittedly fascinating) Silky narrative, the perpetual (and slightly uninspiring) rise of Brooke Lynn Hytes, and the vandalism of Vanjie with this week’s win. We feel a bit sawed in half about this week’s magic act, Mary!
