Makeover challenges usually mean suddenly putting a lot of new people in the workroom and trying to quickly introduce, explore and resolve their stories by the time they hit the runway. By keeping it quarantined this season, we instead got to know the Top 8 a lot better by seeing them become someone else. Rusicals have become a seasonal standby for topical humor, from the Kardashians to the Trump administration. This season the queens take on the behemoth of social media. While Rosé blooms this week, the judges were not living for Tina’s death scene and did not leave many likes for Symone or Kandy. The true winner of this week’s Bossy Rossy improv challenge is really Ross Mathews, but we have much to say on Olivia’s masterful miming and Symone’s divine Deborah. However, we have differing opinions on who should have won not only the challenge but the lip sync between LaLa with 2 L’s and Elliott with 2 T’s. This week, the queens are channeling the late 70’s with a disco dance-umentary and then bringing the early 90’s to the runway with often literal little black dresses. Evan Ross Katz joins us this week to help chart what feels like an oddly produced episode this season. Olivia Lux shined for sure, but did she truly outshine the rest of the cast? Did anyone even do that poorly? And since when were we judging queens on performance looks? Things reach a seemingly inevitable conclusion in the Lip Sync For Your Life, pitting Kandy and Tamisha against one another hot on the heels of last week’s Untucked feud. Sadly the lady says go home to the mother of the Iman dynasty, and Kandy finally shows the judges the vulnerability they’re looking for with a BSA-worthy breakdown. It’s RuPaul’s Bag Race this week with the first ball of the season, dedicated to satchels, sacks, and fanny packs. No surprise, even this long into the series, but some of these girls don’t sew and it shows. Utica’s patient guidance inspires us to cast her and eventually the entire cast as staff and students of a K-8 primary school.
