The Doctor of Deadlifts w/ Dr. Stefi Cohen - The Barbell Life

Dr. Stefi Cohen has an extensive list of achievements in the athletic field but she is also very well accomplished in the academic field. Not only is Stefi a multiple world record holding powerlifter, she is also an exercise physiologist and doctor of physical therapy.   In Olympic Weightlifting Stefi was the Florida senior state gold medalist (2015). Illinois senior state gold medalist and record holder (2015). In Powerlifting Stefi is the current all-time world record holder in squat, deadlift and total, she has 11 total all time world records so far in her career and is the #1 123lb Powerlifter in the world. What do you do if you are a professional athlete and you have a potentially career ending injury to your knee that you do not want to get surgery for? You work with Active Life of course. . Max tore his ACL for the second time and has elected to try and give his career a go without repairing the ACL. . How The Fast Get Faster and the Strong Get Stronger w/ Coach Kav, Travis Mash, Anders Varner, and Doug Larson- Barbell Shrugged

Coach Kavanaugh’s unique approach to training builds on his experience as both an elite athlete and an athlete who has endured a life-changing injury. His programs build strength, flexibility, speed, and teach proper bio-mechanics to increase performance and decrease chance of injury. After becoming a certified speed coach, he tested, trained and evaluated over 50,000 athletes, including stand-outs such as Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, Kansas City Royals first round pick Eric Hosmer, and Florida’s winningest softball pitcher Stephanie Brombacher. Travis Mash has been strength training for over 21 years and has been working with athletes on their strength, speed, and athletic performance for over 15 years. Travis has worked with athletes and non-athletes of all levels from NFL and Olympic hopefuls, to 7-year-olds just starting out, to a 70-year-old senior seeking increased mobility. Alex Turner - Training, Nutrition, and the Influencer Lifestyle — Real Chalk #90

I originally met Alex a few years while he was sponsored by a huge supplement brand called “SHREDZ.” The company sponsored several athletes at the time and in just a short period of time and built them into super stars. It was at that time I started to ask a lot of questions and see what exactly all these people were doing that was giving them the kind of income that had people driving around in Lamborghinis and such. It was a crazy time and I’m fortunate to have known a few of the pioneers like Alex from that time.    In this episode we touch on a little of what makes a solid “influencer” and how training modalities and nutrition has changed over the years. I also ask Alex to share about his own fitness and nutrition regimens that he’s used over the years and what his opinions are on all of them. The Ready State and Moving Better with Dr. Kelly Starrett - Business of Fitness #70

Kelly Starrett, DPT is a coach, physical therapist, author, and speaker. Along with his wife Juliet, Kelly is co-founder of The Ready State. The Ready State began as Mobility|WOD in 2008, and has gone on to revolutionize the field of performance therapy and self-care. Kelly received his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2007 from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, California.     Kelly’s clients include professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. He also works with Olympic gold-medalists, Tour de France cyclists, world and national record holding Olympic Lifting and Power athletes, Crossfit Games medalists, ballet dancers, military personnel, and competitive age-division athletes.     Kelly is the author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers Becoming A Supple Leopard and Ready to Run. He is also co-author (with Juliet) of the Wall Street Journal Bestseller Deskbound. His latest book, Waterman 2.0, offers water-sport athletes a comprehensive guide to optimized movement and pain-free performance.     Kelly and his work have been featured on 60 Minutes, The View, The Joe Rogan Experience, CBS Sports, Outside Magazine, Men's Health, Men's Journal and dozens of other books, magazines, and podcasts, including Tim Ferriss' The 4-Hour Body and Tools of Titans.   On top of co-founding The Ready State, Kelly and Juliet also started San Francisco CrossFit and StandUpKids together.     Founded in 2005, San Francisco CrossFit was the 21st CrossFit affiliate in the world. And StandUpKids is a non-profit dedicated to combating kids' sedentary lifestyles by bringing standing/moving desks to low-income public schools. To date, StandUpKids has converted 95,000 kids from sitting to standing. Earlier in their careers, Kelly and Juliet also co-founded a kayaking camp for children with HIV called Liquid.     In his athletic career, Kelly paddled whitewater slalom canoe on the US Canoe and Kayak Teams. He led the Men’s Whitewater Rafting Team to two national titles and competed in two World Championships. In his free time, “KStar” likes to spend time with his wife, Juliet, and two daughters, Georgia and Caroline. He also loves to mountain bike, paddle, and sauna. And while Kelly claims to tolerate the ice bath, according to Juliet he actually likes that, too.     Brief Summary:  Today is all about the evolution of mobility.
