When he was 14 months, his parents, Weather Underground members Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert, were incarcerated for driving a get away car in a robbery that wound up killing three men. Chesa's mother was released after 22 years, but his father will never leave prison. Boudin became a public defender and is now the latest example of a progressive, decarceral lawyer running for the DA's office, in the tradition of Larry Krasner and Tiffany Caban.
