In 2020 when the world was shutting down it was our first year on this homestead in Georgia. I was starting to feel very lonely because all of my homesteading friends were back in California. That's when I found a new startup app called Clubhouse. I was in a new state, a new home, and far away from my homesteading friends. It was a really difficult time for me and then I found the social audio app where there were all these people talking about gardening, raising livestock, fermenting food, and all of the things I loved to talk about. I found my online homesteading community and I still have good relationships with many of the people I met back in 2020. My guest today is Jasmine Bass and we met on Clubhouse. While we have not been as active on Clubhouse anymore, I have fond memories of the rooms we used to host together and all of the conversations we had. We see picture-perfect social media posts with families enjoying the homesteading life and then look at our less-than-perfect life and wonder what we are doing wrong. Well, you're not doing it wrong. I think all parents have some doubts. The homesteading life is great but there are some downsides and sacrifices that had to be made in order to live the way we did. Now that I'm older and wiser and all of the children are adults I can see clearly the benefits of raising children in the homestead life. There were plenty of downsides to the lifestyle but the benefits far out weight them. Here are 5 things you need to know about homesteading with children: All of these things may not be true for every child or homestead but if your children are growing up the way mine did then this is a possible outcome. Your children will discover that being bored is not a bad thing. Your children will learn about life and death. Your children will gain an appreciation for nature. Your children will learn about hard work. Your children will know things their peers don't.
