Papa Dee - He could have been Shaggy!
Back in 1989, when I was at MTV Europe, Papa Dee was labeled the next break-out artist from Sweden. After this DEEP DIVE interview look out for the UPDATE INTERVIEW.Papa Dee's early career was full of promise, from execs who were determined to make him the next big thing in Europe and the States. But although he didn’t reach the international career heights of Shaggy, whom Clive Davis saw him as still maintained a long and successful career in Sweden and the maturity to choose the music he wanted to do.This is a very human story. Born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and a Ghanaian father who left when he was very young, music became the compensation for his father’s departure. He’s had success, experienced the highs and lows of fame, and even been falsely accused of grave assault. Yet music, whether pop, dancehall, reggae, soul, or funk, has clearly been a motivator, and compensator, and provided a backbone to his life. #papadee #roburaz #titiyo #swedishmusic #rapper #toaster #reggae #kinks #deadendstreet Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/pop-the-history-makers-with-steve-blame/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Hosted on Acast. Anne Clark DEEP DIVE INTERVIEW
This is a DEEP DIVE interview with Anne Clark, a poet who delivers her poetry within a world of experimental music, and who remains one of the great pioneers in her field. Her first album The Sitting Room was released in 1982. This was followed by three albums, Changing Places (1983), Joined up Writing (1984), and Hopeless Cases (1987), where she was joined by David Harrow, author of the music and producer. The singles, Sleeper in Metropolis, and Our Darkness became staples of the 1980s, and remain two of the great tracks of that era. In this DEEP DIVE interview Anne talks about her early family life, and how those experiences have formed her, and her first album, The Sitting Room, and the success she had in the 80s with David Harrow's music on the next three albums that spawned Sleeper in Metropolis and Our Darkness. She also talks about some more recent aspects of her career, and although this interview is in-depth, we didn't have enough time to come fully up to date - but if you’re interested in her latest album BORDERLAND and the upcoming tour then watch out for the UPDATE INTERVIEW, also online. Belouis Some UPDATE - BEYOND HIS WILDEST IMAGINATION!
To be back in the charts again, after a hiatus of nearly 40 years is truly beyond Belouis Some's wildest dreams. But it's true, his song IMAGINATION which was a hit in 1985, and from his debut album SOME PEOPLE only reached number 50 in the British charts on its first release, a re-release saw it rise to number 17, and now a remix in 2023 by producer Lee Rose, has seen it get to the top ten of the dance charts around Europe. In this UPDATE INTERVIEW, he talks about how that came about, and his joy at being back in the charts. If you would like to hear the full-length, highly entertaining DEEP DIVE interview with Neville Keighley aka Belouis Some, then it's also online. In that interview, he talks about his early influences and the early recordings which led up to his first album. It's an amazing story of someone who clearly was extremely driven, and eventually achieved his dream of worldwide success in the mid-eighties with 'Some People' and 'Imagination', He also talks about how, after success ended he went through a period of loss, eventually leading to a different life, and how an unexpected phone call led to him going back on stage in 2019 and may have triggered more stage appearances in the future.Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blameFor more on Belouis Some - http://belouissome.comAnd thanks to POP; The History Makers insanely wonderful talent booker: #ArchieCMichaelSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/pop-the-history-makers-with-steve-blame/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Hosted on Acast. Larry Flick - Legendary Music Journalist
With a history of over 35 years in the music business, Larry Flick is probably best known for his 14-year stint at Billboard magazine where he was a senior editor, after which he became a host and producer on SiriusXM. Larry achieved a lot of firsts in the industry, with the ability to break artists into the American market. He was the first to write about Mariah Carey and helped break Britney Spears, and Adele into the American Market, and when it comes to specific tracks - even Madonna. He’s a New York native, brought up by Italian catholic parents who used to get him to play records for them and their friends to dance to when he was a child. He has a theory about the 7th track on any album - something which will get you looking through your record collection, and seeing if this is true. He’s charming and entertaining and this interview is just like dining out with one of the greats of music journalism of the past 35 years.
