Episode #127: Will Saunders / Outdoor Adventure Photographer

On this episode of the podcast I'm joined by outdoor adventure photographer Will Saunders to talk about how he went from a kid working as a white water rafting guide in his high school years wanting to study marine biology in college, to suddenly being influenced to take up the torch of photojournalism and pursue a life in photography.  Growing up in a variety of outdoor influenced areas, Will was always attracted to the life that the mountains and oceans offered.  By the time he ended up in Sisters Oregon, he was ready and open to the outdoor adventures that were presented by the unique high school he attended.  After graduating he set off unsure of what would be next, but the universe offered him a mentor that would change the course of his life.  Once he found photography, his work ethic, creative drive, and world renowned mentors helped him quickly develop his own brand of visual storytelling to offer to the outdoor adventure space.  During our conversation Will talks about how this podcast ended up helping to kickstart his career, what it was like working as Tim Kemple's first assistant and alongside the Camp 4 Collective team, how he continues to creatively push himself and evolve as a photographer, and the advice he gives to others with dreams of becoming an adventure storyteller.   To Learn More About Will Saunders Visit: https://www.willsaundersphoto.com And Follow Him On Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/willsaundersphoto/ To Learn More About Visual Revolutionary Visit: http://www.visualrevolutionary.com And Follow On Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/visualrevolutionary/

Episode #126: Sofia Jaramillo / Commercial / Editorial / Adventure Photographer / Filmmaker

Commercial, editorial, and outdoor adventure photographer and filmmaker Sofia Jaramillo joins the podcast to talk about how she went from a kid growing up on the slopes of Sun Valley, Idaho to working as a photojournalist in Mexico City, to living in Jackson Hole Wyoming focusing her camera on the outdoor adventure lifestyle she is surrounded by for brands like the North Face and publications ranging from National Geographic to the New York Times.  Sofia found photography at a young age and instantly fell in love with the idea of having the ability to visually communicate to others the way she saw her surroundings.  Throughout her high school and college years, she focused on her craft and moved towards a future in journalism while studying and working for the Yakima Herald in Washington State. But after a stint as a photojournalist in Mexico City, she decided to move to the mountains of Jackson Hole and focus on the lifestyle and adventures that existed there.  Before long she began to get recognition from her peers, as well as from national publications and outdoor brands and has since begun to make a name for herself in the photography industry.  During our conversation we talk about what is was like to recently have the opportunity to represent National Geographic at the winter X Games in Aspen, CO, how she has transitioned into motion with a new film she is currently working on, what it was like to connect with her Latin routes after growing up in the predominantly white culture of a ski town, and the advice that she gives to others chasing their creative dreams in the mountains.   To Learn More About Sofia Jaramillo Visit: http://www.sofiajaramillophoto.com And Follow Her on Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/sofia_jaramillo5/ To Learn More About Visual Revolutionary Visit: http://www.visualrevolutionary.com And Follow On Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/visualrevolutionary/

Episode 125: Demas Rusli / Photographer / Architect / Designer / Content Creator

On this episode of the podcast I'm joined by photographer, architect, designer, and all around content creator Demas Rusli to find out how he went from a kid growing up in Sydney Australia with a fascination for architecture, to picking up a camera, building a loyal instagram following, and shooting for some of the biggest brands in the world like Adidas, Samsung, and more, all the while maintaining a job as a working architect and designer.  It was a conversation I was looking forward to having about what the path of a young talented creative can look like in today's photography world.  Demas tells me what it was like to move from the place of his birth in Jakarta Indonesia to Sydney Australia at a very early age and how that affected his youth, his interests, and the path he would end up taking in life.  While chasing his dreams of becoming an architect, he was introduced to photography and fell in love with the medium and the idea of capturing the world the way he saw it. Although he didn't want to give up his new career in architecture and design, he was quickly building an audience on Instagram and before long companies began approaching him to shoot for them.  During our conversation he tells me what it's like juggling two creative careers, both of which he loves, and how they can sometimes play off each other.  We talk about digital manipulation and post production techniques that has brought photography into a new realm and whether or not it has crossed a line of still being photography or not, how he keeps from getting burned out, the way he stays organized, and the advice he gives to others hoping to fulfill their own creative goals.   To Find out More About Demas Rusli Visit: https://www.demasrusli.com And Follow Him on Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/demas/ Also check out his Podcast 529 at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC66vdXZvc_j0Ee-Z2FzDo_A To Learn More About Visual Revolutionary Visit: http://www.visualrevolutionary.com And Follow On Instagram At: https://www.instagram.com/visualrevolutionary/

Best of VR: Glen E Friedman / Renowned Music and Skateboard Photographer

On this episode of The Best of The Visual Revolutionary Podcast I sit down with renowned photographer Glen E. Friedman.  To take a look through some of Friedman's archive is like stepping back into time and getting the chance to live through the subcultures he was there to bare witness to.  He created images that would help define a generation.  From the Dogtown Days of skateboarding with Tony Alva and Jay Adams, to the raw energy of punk with Black Flag and Minor Threat, to the early days of hip hop with the Beastie Boys and Run DMC, Friedman was there with a camera in hand.  The list of recognizable names and artists that he helped visually introduce to the world goes on and on and stands as a testament to his own taste in what he thought was important to photograph. During my conversation I get the chance to ask Friedman what he thinks the next youth movement will be, what it's like to work with some of the biggest names in music, and the advice he gives to others about following their passion.  So enjoy this conversation with Glen E.
