In this episode of the Parker's Pensées Podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Philip Goff to discuss panpsychism, cosmopsychism, and theism. We cover some of Goff's academic papers wherein he argues that an agentive cosmopsychism could account for the fine tuning of the universe just as well as theism can but that it's simpler than theism and hence should be preferred. We also discuss how a panpsychism might account for. the laws of logic and other abstracta and the meaning of life on panpsychism.  Check out more from Dr. Goff here: https://www.philipgoffphilosophy.com/ and read his SEP article on panpsychism here: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/panpsychism/ If you like this podcast, then support it on Patreon for $3, $5 or more a month. Ep. 176 - Does Peer Disagreement Destroy Your Religious Knowledge? w/Dr. Matthew Benton

If my peers are just as smart as me, and have the same evidence that I have, but come to a different conclusion than I do, then what do I do? Should I hold fast to my belief or should I withhold judgment? Whatever I decide about general cases of disagreement, should I also apply that to religious disagreement? Dr. Matthew Benton came on the podcast to school me on the epistemology of disagreement, the particular cases of religious disagreement, and we even get into the simulation hypothesis.  Find Dr. Benton's new book on disagreement here: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/religious-disagreement-and-pluralism-9780198849865?cc=us&lang=en& check out more from Matthew Benton here: https://iep.utm.edu/kn-norms/?fbclid=IwAR2BPa7MUn1l-91n4bLT34oCWdiePxlSl-RlnuK3IUwq6sPdeAj7l-FsTBY and here: https://scholars.spu.edu/benton/?fbclid=IwAR1NcvirN0qt94v1zvc-TD9Hm_odwOVKYDi5igQARZQJMZ16v63NwOild00  and here: https://philpeople.org/profiles/matthew-a-benton?fbclid=IwAR2OsFrsf3wCKCWwnfGZAT9QAWACiWef1J_gVe7nQocUfAli7zkfJr-JUzM If you like this podcast, then support it on Patreon for $3, $5 or more a month. Ep. 175 - The Existence of the Mind and the Definition of 'Physical' w/Dr. Dolores Morris

Is the physical world causally closed? If so, then all causes are physical causes, or are reducible to physical causes or entities. That would seem to preclude an immaterial mind's interaction with the body. Dr. Dolores Morris help's me think through Hempel's dilemma for defining what we mean by 'physical'. We also get into lots of other topics in the philosophy of mind. Ep. 171 - Solving Apparent Contradictions in the Doctrine of the Trinity w/Dr. Chris Tweedt

"Trinititarians are charged with at least two contradictions. First, the Father is God and the Son is God, so it seems to follow that the Father is the Son. Trinitarians affirm the premises but deny the conclusion, which seems contradictory. Second, the Father is a God, the Son is a God, and the Holy Spirit is a God, but the Father is not the Son, the Father is not the Holy Spirit, and the Son is not the Holy Spirit. This argument seems to entail that there are three Gods. Again, Trinitarians affirm the premises but deny the conclusion." Dr. Chris Tweedt helps me think through these two problems for Trinitarians and provides a novel solution to them which is compatible with divine simplicity.    Find more from Dr. Tweedt here: https://christweedt.com/ If you like this podcast, then support it on Patreon for $3, $5 or more a month.
